How often do you change oil?
#31
Since it was new I have faithfully changed the oil every 5000 kilometers. No fancy oils or additives just 11 liters of Finning Sure Lube and a new Fleetgard.
Filter =$8 (Cummins Power Boster Member )
Sure lube = $0 (donated )
Total = $8 x 3 times per year and my time

How are y'all claiming to have semi-clean oil at changes? I run 3k mi changes and my oil is very, very sooty & black by the first fuel fillup ~300mi later. I ran my truck for 20 minutes after the cam swap and the stuff that was clear 20minutes before was now as dirty as the 3000mi used oil... I sent in a sample to be analysed over the last change. Just waiting on the results now and I'll let you know what type of particulate matter I'm seeing. I'm thinking the large injectors on a 177k stock bottom end have something to do with it.

change mine at 4k. i think oil is cheap in comparison to an engine. bought my first car in 1957 have changed all the gassers i have owned at 2 to 3k. have only blown 2 engines in that time and both were on the dragstrip i was told years ago by an oil company person that should have known what he was talking about that if ones oil did not darken it was not doing its job.. filter is supposed to catch wear particals and oil keeps rest of "stuff" in suspension so it drains out when one changes oil. all but 2 of my cars have been bought used, and the engines have actually cleaned up.

Since the day it was new my oil would be black within 300 miles also?
I wonder if it has anything to do with the brand of oil or .......

Engine oil every 5,000 - 6,000 miles - 15W-40 Oil With fleetguard filter
Air Filter every 25,000 miles - Fleetguard
Fuel Filter every 15,000 miles - Fleetguard
Transmision every 60,000 miles - (coming soon)
Transfer case every 30,000 miles - ATF
Front / rear axles every 30,000 miles - 80w-90 gear lube
By the time it gets to these vavlues in mileage the oil's are getting dark or black. This also applies to Syn. Oils.
Syn Oil might have better quality of lube but it still gets dirty like dino juice.
Following this I had no problem really with my truck and my fuel milage hasn't changed much. It will vary from 20.1 to 21.1 MPG.
