How often do you change oil?

I know, I know, another oil thread, but it is amazing when you think about it.

Newbie buys new CDT. Newbie disreguards the manufacturers service recommendations after reading infomurcial on the net about going 100K between oil changes with brand "AXXXXX." Newbie trades the truck off after 80K miles because they now have heated cup holders (having never changed the oil). Newbie II buys used truck and wonders why engine is not running properly, or the turbo is shot.

How many of you guys would buy a CDT knowing the oil has never been changed? How about if the oil was only changed every 50K miles? 25K? Would you buy a truck knowing the guy mixed oil brands & weights?

Seems to me, the best way to maintain your truck, AND MAINTAIN the trucks VALUE is to do what the manufacture suggests?

But that is just me!

Personally I change my oil every 3000 miles on my 1995. I know some people think its a waste to do so at low mileage. Change fuel filter every other oil change.l I've done the oil changes at aprox. 3000 miles to every vechile I've ever owned which have all been gassers. So the beat goes on for the Ram. I use the Delo oil.--Ray

Every 3K. Only because I got lifetime oil changes with my deal! If I didn't have that I would be comfortable going 6 - 7K.

Every 3-4K..... Most guys tell me it's a waste of money, but they won't be helping to pay for a rebuild either.

I usually do mine every 7k, including the filter. Every-other oil change I do the fuel filter, too.

It's heartening to see that the vast majority of respondents actually follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Imagine that.

Wow. I can only make it 4-6 weeks between a change.

Every 7000 plus what ever it takes to get back to the house and change it. Usually 7400 or 7500 at the change. The book on mine calls for 3500, can't live with that.

Since we have oil analysis equipment at work did an analysis every 1000 miles on Delo 400, at 12k it was still good to go so I settled on 10k as an easy to remember number.
One thing to take into consideration especially with an older rig is that oil quality has gotten immensely better since the oil change intervals were first determined. My bet is if Cummins went back and redid their testing that the intervals would double. Highly doubt Cummins will ever do this though.

I've read that the automakers are pushing for oil and engine designs that will safely go 100k in order to sell a vehicle that is maintenance free for at least the first owner.
