Question How much Torque can the CENTER of 12.25" clutches handle ??

1) How much can the center section of 12.25" clutches handle BEFORE they twist apart ??

2) Also, I've "heard" that ALL clutch manufacturers pretty much use the SAME 12.25" clutch frame (metal stamped part) and then insert their own pads (kelvar, ceramic, organic).

What's the scoop on this ??

i never blew one up. mine would not hold 800 ftpounds for long slipped, but even towing at 800ft pounds did not break the hub, my new cluch is a lot more solid center hub yet still 12.25

That's what I'm trying to determine.

Just how much TORQUE can the 12.25" HUBs take without breaking.

Are you saying the hub in your NEW clutch is beefier than the previous clutch ??? What brands were BOTH of them ?

Angry

My truck has 216k on it and the disc just ripped out this week. Took the pressure plate, pilot bearing and input shaft with it. It 's still in the shop waiting for parts.

I only have a Smarty and drive very easy and don't tow heavy anymore.

It depends on driving style. A 13" clutch is worth the extra money tho.

Just kinda cracked it.

It's a 2wd so no sled pulling, and I have never had a trailer behind it. Runs around empty most of the time too. Broke about 14 months after it was installed, the truck never made more than 800 ft-lbs during that time.

I am very gentle with the power, I apply power smoothly and never apply power until the clutch is engaged. You can see the facing looks almost new. This was a 12" Con-O.

I have a valair 12.25 HD center section feramic clutch and its not had a easy life so far and it is holding up quite well. I have hooked the sled twice with it. I pull a 28 foot camper, I pull my friends 21' dovetail tralior. about 10 to 14k behind me loaded. and I screw around alot. and it hasn't slipped or done anything funky yet. I am happy.
