How fast will it really go?

Re:How fast will it really go?
I've banged against the limiter at 106 mph. Scared the hell out of me when it hit!!! As Scotty said "tumbling down the road" is not fun!! Been there at 143 mph in a Class 8 off-road race truck......sky, dirt, sky, dirt, sky, dirt.......not fun at all. Worst part of it all was seeing a $250,000+ race truck rolled up into a ball the size of a Toyota. :'(

Re:How fast will it really go?
Anthony & Tom,
I just have to share this with you- A little over a week ago, I put in the Piers 3K GSK. It really makes a difference! Even light throttle accelleration is better, and shifts between 2700 and 3000 are fantastic. Of course, it may not make as big of a difference with the stock fuel plate, but it sure will let you take full advantage of an aftermarket one. ;D

Tom,

I don't think your actual throttle position will be that much different for any given acceleration, maybe just a bit less, but it sure feels more responsive. With the TransGo kit, the throttle cable adjustment becomes less critical- 1. You're upping the pressure across the rpm range. 2. By shortening the throttle valve plunger, your shift point control is by spring pressure alone (at least in all but WOT). Since you can put in a stiffer spring (later shifts), the tranny will act as if more throttle is being applied. You can even adjust your cable for more travel if you want to.

It is also my opinion (shared by some) that higher rpm shifts are easier on the tranny because of greater holding pressure and less rpm drop between the gears.

yeah, mine seems to shift smoothest at around 2300rpms at moderate throttle. i still don't know about the transgo. what's the difference besides a full valve body besides the oiling in park?

Re:How fast will it really go?
If I knew everything that an expert like Bill Kondolay does to a valve body, I would certainly try to emulate it. Fact is, I have never spoken to the man, though I hear he is quite congenial and helpful. I hope to one day own his clutch, band, input, planetary, and TC upgrades. Also any further valve body mods he might suggest. I would actually like to install them myself, so I can get a better feel for what's going on in there.

I could be all wrong, but I'm thinking the 47RE with the kit can hold about 300hp, as long as you have it setup for shifts at about 2500 and don't just outright abuse it. That's just an estimate, I don't have previous experience with this tranny or engine. ???

I'd say if you really want to know the differences and what mods will hold how much power, ask Bill. From everything I hear, he'll tell it to you straight (actually, I'd be curious about his opinion on the TransGo kit).
