How does my R47E really work ?
Hello Guys;
One thing I've always wanted to better understand is the automatic transmission. Not only in my dodge 3/4 ton, but in any vehicle equipped with a modern AT.
Could some please direct me to a relatively basic explanation as to how a transmission works? Including; Torque converter's job, function of OD, Lockup, Kickdown, ect.
Actually a run through explaining what the trans is doing on acceleration would be great! Ex. 1st, TC lockup, 2nd,.....ect.
Thanks !!

I was actually looking up your exact question a few days ago. I used howstuffworks.com, but I still dont get it. Try these for starters:
http://auto.howstuffworks.com/torque-converter.htm

A very good source of info is the service manual you can obtain through www.techauthority.com
There you'll find all hte flow diagrams of the tranny. ( And a whole lot of other useful info in case you've got problems with your truck)
