General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

hit with economics. Lead him to a '03-'04 HO 6spd that will get 20+ empty and 12+ towin'. The Cummins has thirty six percent fewer engine parts and has 350000 mi fleet average before overhaul something PSD can't come close. Their still trying for 200000 mi .

DONT bash his psd, the 7.3 is a solid engine he will get mad. all our work trucks PSD 7.3 get changed out at 300,000 and are still running good
we (the co. i work for) bought 150 new 6.0 PSD POS its a mechanical nightmare

I agree with Rebal

U wont see a 7.3 PSD on a used car lot here for over a week in south tx, regardless, i have seen ranchers trade in 6.0's for the old faithfull.. 7.3 has torque good and low comparable to a cummins, that 6.oh no and i call it, pulls like a gasser, really high RPMS for really high tq, not what we are used to, they run like a bat outta hell specially when chipped.. but dont pull as well as the 7.3 or the cummins, And at the payment, bugs, and glitches for a 6.0 as the only option? I dont think so... they are really nice trucks, i just wouldnt risk it.. Plus with two less cylinders and either 20 less valves or 8 depending on which cummins u get (if he decided to go old school) the mileage will be so much less, and much more dependable than any 6.0, as for the 7.3, i have nuttin but respect for it, mind you the electronics are scary tho..

tell him to do some research...i wouldnt mind going with single rear wheel 1999 f350 with a 7.3 standard...thats a very nice truck....but i wouldnt touch a 6.0...every ford site ive been to thinks that their torqueshift tranny is some gift from god thats bulletproof and all their arguments in favor of the ford start with that...then u tell them the facts and they finish with somehting like:"umm oh yeah? well uh uh uh the ford is still a better truck overrall ...so there!" sound familiar guys? whaaa whaaa....if u get a 12 valve with already 200 000 miles on it it will last longer than that 6.0!

I'ts his money, let him buy what he wants. If you had told me 20 years ago that I would be driving a Dodge, I would have told you that I would rather see my daughter in a whorehouse than my son in a Dodge.

Habits take a while to change.

Nevada is right... Some things we will accept and others take time...

Kinda like me... I've got the choice at the Fire house... Drive a Chevy DuraMax or a Ford F-750!

My choice is the ford... It one of the older gasser but she rolls good and it good old fashioned American designed! She starts every time and no problems. Tops speed is about 50-55 MPH with 700 gallons of water!

The DuraMax is in bad shape. It hard starting at times. It smokes a lot (mostly because of a internal problem - knockin' and oil in the turbo from the crankcase breather) Once she clear her turbo up she will go but still can only pack 300 gallon of water...

Personally, When faced with this I would rather leave the DuraMax one at home and take a FORD - GASSER!

My Cummins knows I will be home again...

Angry

I lost too.

Fellow worker just got an 06 f150 v8 12 mpg on a good day no load vs my 17 on winter fuel anyday. He hasn't tried to pull his double enclosed snowmobile trailer yet (no snow) Another guy has an 05 f250 with a v10 11mpg on a good day....no talk when pulling boat trailer.

When we talk trucks they say "yeah but you have a BIG truck" "yours is different" duh. I equate "different with good in this case LOL.

One sma says "with all the smoke yours puts out it must go thru gallons of oil." I says" well 'course diesel is oil. Not only that it is so clean that I can burn the oil change oil for fuel too." (not that I do yet)
