How to convince a co-worker to go cummins?

This guy I work with and ride ATV's with is looking for a new truck since his 99 eddie bauer expy just lost cyliners 1&8...he keeps looking at powerstrokes...he loves my cummins, but i cant convince him to buy one.

He is looking at both new and used...the new 05's he is looking to get a reg cab, long bed, 6.0L, manual, no power options, vinyl interior, jsut so he can afford it. He can get a REAL nice used cummins with low miles for at least $10K cheaper...but he likes the Ferd super duty...heck he even figured that with fuel prices...he is only gonna save a few dollars in gas because he gets 11.3 mpg now, and the ferds only get 13-15 mpg. He was impressed by my 21mpg statements tho.

I'll convince him by letting him buy it, then hooking up the chains in the parking lot, and jerking his new truck around with my 6-banger

Steer your buddy to the dieselstop.com. He may change his mind about getting the 6.0L.

Send him over here to look around at the experances of real owners with real trucks. The Ford truck is a good truck - but I feel for anyone with a 6.0. Even if they haven't had problems, they likely will soon...

"Medium duty diesel vs. light duty diesel" Which would you want? How about a meduim duty diesel that gets much better mileage than the light duty, lasts longer, is less complicated, and has a much better fuel system on it? How about comparing resale values since the 6.0 fiasco started. Who buys a used '03 or '04 Ford diesel now?

Yep. I remember that picture when the nightmare was happening. Worse than the bad dream thread in the "other" forum.
Show him the water pump on your Cummins and how two 10mm bolts removes it. Just one example of Cummins simplicity. The water pump on the PSD is a real nightmare. Water pumps go out. Make your choice. And what's with a 2005 diesel still using glow plugs? And that obsolete ill fated HEUI injection contraption? I'd rather have a Dodge with a Hemi than a Ford with a Powerstroke.

If you cut me I bleed Cummings, but if you read this sight it would scare anyone too. Most who post are looking for answers to problems or concerns.

I think the best way to convince anyone to buy a CDT is to look who has them and how many miles they have put on their trucks.

My 99 has 165K miles, original trans, 23 hwy - 19 city MPG, no problems and I would not trade this truck for $30K. ($31 maybe! ) Truck runs as strong as the day I bought it new. Some minor repairs, but nothing major. The truck has never let me down.

Geico, I understand what your saying, but it seemed to be much more tragic. A lot of "it wouldnt start today" "It died on the rod today had to wait an hour for a tow" .....etc etc......maybe I need to visit our 3 rd gen area more?

On this site I see little things....like searching for a cabin air leak? I know we all can have problems....but they have polls on who have had buybacks...

and what seems to be a lot of low mileage trucks.....most of us have 100k or more.....many over 200k.....on the ford site it seems 50k it a good test.

hit with economics. Lead him to a '03-'04 HO 6spd that will get 20+ empty and 12+ towin'. The Cummins has thirty six percent fewer engine parts and has 350000 mi fleet average before overhaul something PSD can't come close. Their still trying for 200000 mi . The Cummins has 7500/15000 oil change schedual. Tell him to price Ford filters for the PSD and then compare to Fleet Guard prices from Genos. Have him compare prices on injectors. For me the the best is fuel milage . Non of the 6.0 PSD can touch the milage the 555 engine is gettin'. Its just plain economics........JIM
