General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

"Hey man. you got a blower on that thing?"

I use my 3500 to commute 30 miles to work and constantly have people ask why I drive a one ton dually everyday. My reply is always "why not?". They always tell me the truck must really suck down the gas. Whats really funny is when someone that drives a 1/2 ton gasser that gets about 12mpg says something about me driving a dually when it gets 16mpg on my commute. I get better fuel economy and diesel fuel is cheaper so why not DD a 3500 dually.

one of my buddies dads was all against how "noisy" the CTD's were and refused to budge on his V8 half ton with a 3/4 ton frame. soon after he bought a CTD exactly like my dads except in white.

standing in the subway a few months ago i overheard this couple behind me talking. the guy was going on and on about the new PSD and how it (i swear to God this is the truth!) " it gets 35mpg loaded down and it actually produces 95% pure oxygen out the tail pipe" i just had to turn and BS with him. he said "yep! you actually get about 60% oxygen commin in and 95% goin out so your actually MAKING more oxygen and helping the environment!" then went on to talk about "yeah, those dodges are nice, but they are dirty and bad for the env..." yall if im lyin im dyin!

I never get people. I talk to a guy at the station today. He was in a gasser 2500 hemi 4X4 and he is a diesel pump filling up with gas when there is 20 other gas pumps with out diesel in them and there is 2 diesel truck waiting for him to move. Any ways he asks how my truck pull the weight and what MPG i am getting pulling. I told him i get 12-13mpg pulling 12k on the gooseneck. Then he tells me that he gets 14-15 pulling his 15k bumper tow RV. I just got in my truck and laughed. Then i get out to put the pump up and notice that he does not even have a hitch. I ask him about it and he says that he takes it off when he is not using it.

I dont know how these people reproduce.

you know how big a 15K camper is, probably 40 feet long the way new campers are built, my 77 model 27" coachmen bunkhouse is only 8.5K to 9K fully loaded and that thing has a 6 inch c-channel frame under it, and that thing takes everything powerstrokes, duramaxs and cummins have to pull it. ive pulled it with all 3 and they all struggle.

Well I decided top have a little fun the other day at a tractor pull that happened to have a 6200# truck class.... It was all 4x4 gassers except me because I honestly wanted to see if the 2wd would even move the darned sled Well I did manage 4th out of 5 with a pull of 132' 4". Anyways i have two perspectives of the pull since my best friend was at the start of the track and my fiancé was attempting to film my pull at the other end.

Fiancé's end: Two guys. previous conversations were all based on the trucks that were hooking and then on their performance...
"What's this dodge all about (the rest were fords)"

"I dunno..."

"Wait is that?...."

"Dude it's a friggin Cummins that's not fair!"

"How in the world did he get so light?!"

"I dunno but... WHOA! look at that I can't even see the strobe on the sled because of all the smoke!"

"Hold on a sec, his 4x4 is broken"

*finally realizes it's 2wd*

"Not bad for a 2wd did you hear that turbo?!"

Friends end:

"that truck doesn't sound right...."

*I start pulling*

"WOW he's burning a LOT of oil! Listen to that squeal, there has to be something seriously wrong! Why isn't he letting off of it?"

My friend couldn't hold it in anymore and fell over laughing, but not before informing the guy that it was a Cummins turbo diesel....

"oh........"

I had a guy at o'reilly's tell me that I need to put a gallon of regular unleaded in my tank because it would give me a lot more power. He said he does it to his 6.5L chevy diesel and it's a lot faster. Funny thing, I haven't seen that 6.5L in the past 2 months.

I hate to say it but my stupid story came from another Cummins owner. We started BS'in after he drove up to our campsite for some jumper cables for another car. He said he had 690 hp and 900 tq , so we asked him what his mods were. And I quote: 'bigger turbo fan, oversize valves, and an edge superchip.' NO gauges, and a stock transmission.

I have forgotten more than that guy knows about diesels.

Had a run in with a less than knowledgeable cummins owner myself. Local guy that runs around with all the edge and such stickers on his truck. After I went up from my 100 hp injecters, asked him if he wanted to buy them, here is his response " Are those the good injecters with the glow plugs in the end" Tried explaining till I gave up and said no "just cheapos from advance auto"

An acquaintance and I were shootin' the breeze at a local "indy" Harley shop and talk came around to trucks...what's that truck got in it he says, Cummins I reply...oh, that's my ford over there...it's got a 6.0 in it, a lot bigger'n your motor...yeah prolly .1 liter I reply...didja know Ford owns "CumminGs" he says...don't think so genius I replied (getting a little tired of the pompous edited by admin at this point)......so I saw him last week (been about a month) and noticed he was driving his wifes Subaru...so where's yer truck I ask...oh had to take it in for a few problems...really how long they had it?...kinda lowers his head as replies, 'bout a month...said they're sending out a new motor...

If ya wait long enough the education will eventually begin...

Arguing with an idiot is like trying to teach a pig to sing. ( It wastes your time and annoys the pig)
