Sometimes it's just easier to let them think they're right, because you'll never convince them they're wrong. A customer of mine last week was talking about his Duramax having 450hp and 650ft-lbs of torque...stock. I tried telling him it was more like 350hp, but he insisted they cranked the hp up on the new ones at it was putting out at least 450hp.

And after riding in it, I thought the GMC/Chevy's were supposed to be all about ride. This thing was rougher than mine is.

Most of the time I just smile and agree with people who say their truck has XXX horsepower stock as Aggie was saying. It's more simple to agree or give a head nod and a "wow, really" then you can be on your way laughing to yourself in your truck.

Have not had anybody confuse mine for a hemi....yet.

What I'm wondering is, how can he be THAT stupid to think that Dodge had the almighty "hemi" in a 97' 3/4 ton truck? Some people just amaze me.

It's nearly impossible to fight ignorance. That's why I can't stand working with the general public.

People are generally ignorant about diesels. Even with the horsepower wars over the last 10 years or so, poeple are still ignorant as to how fast and efficient these engines are! I daily drive my dually ~10 miles to work. I speed up/slow down to merge into traffic. People don't think there's enough power & they don't want this big slow truck in front of them!

I don't quite drive it like I stole it, but I'm not blocking traffic either!

i tell people mine is a 5.9, automatically they think its a gas motor, then i tell them its got 20:1 compression and a turbo, really messes with their heads for some reason, til i leave and fill the lane with black smoke, ive had guys tell me their NEW dodges had dana 70's and 80's under the nose from the factory along with the NEW hemi diesel engine, yes a hemi diesel, had a guy that worked at a used dodge truck dealership tell me his 2004 dodge regular cab dually 6 speed with a flatbed towing a 35 foot gooseneck got almost 30 empty and 26 loaded with 2 dodge trucks, also told me that a guy the day before traded in a 2007 duramax for a 1999 dodge 24 valve but there was no 2007 duramax on the lot. same guys that couldnt fix a 2002 duramax cause it was running bad, they tried everything and couldnt figure out what it was, i told them it had a bad injector, and they said how do you know, i then had to explain to them it was a common problem and the whole warranty thing, these boys didnt realize they was talking to 3 diesel truck guys, i walked out of the dealership after hearing all the duramax bull, i like all 3 diesels, and i aint gonna say any of them is the best over the other, cause they all got problems, but when i hear idiocy at work it just blows my mind sometimes. diesel truck pullers are the best but ill leave that for another time and place. LOLOLOL.

I was told that I had the "small" Cummins Diesel Engine and a larger Diesel V8 was available for the RAM Pickup. The part store fella swore by it.

Why argue with lack there of ...

Yeah. I love that disrespect for diesels. I remember back when my family first got our Duramax (I know this is a dodge site, please don’t hate on me. We got 2 dodges now to make up for it =D )
At that time (September 2001 was when we picked it up) it was the quietest diesel on the market, we got lots of “oo0o0o’s” and “aaahhhh’s” over that, but I would take it over to a friends house and his step father would just shake his head is disapproval of diesel engines. “Oh they’re too loud and to slow and they get horrible fuel economy.” That was coming from a guy who drove a 4-door 1500 Chevy gasser that got about 14mpg on a good day. He refused to believe that our Duramax got up to 17in the city and 19 on the highway.
We later got a 100hp chip on it and he couldn’t understand how a chip would make “such a slow heavy truck quick” Finally we managed to give him a ride up the road to the store to get some gas for the lawnmower and once we got that truck on pavement I floored that thing and put him back in his seat through all 5 gears….wound it up to 90 in no time then let off and just laughed at him. My friend beat me to it, he leaned over the back seat and said, “Diesels aren’t fast, huh?”
We changed his tune.
Now his complaint for not buying a diesel is “theyre too expensive to buy and maintain and diesel is expensive”
Some people will never learn.
I need to give him a ride in our new 6.7 =D

Had a guy tell me that his buddies 3500 05 got 20mpg pulling. I tryed to tell him there is now way unless he was going down hill but he would not listen. Then he told me that there had to be something wrong with my truck for getting 19.8mpg empty.

I've heard it said that you should never argue with an idiot. They just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I like that one!

I used to try to argue a little bit when people would say stuff like this. Yesterday i was at the local muffler shop talking to a guy about changing the exhaust on my gasser, and some how we got on the subject of new diesels and there funky exhausts. He said "well ya know Ford bought Cummins last year, so theyll be puttin the Cummins in all their trucks next year". I was just like "oh really?, havent heard that".
