General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Here it is..How dissappointing...

No way the 5.9 is good for 07 EPA as of right now unless it says it is on the engine. Maybe they are putting the 6.7 in the 3500 chassis cab to set it apart further.

These things must be designed like my JD tractors.
The Charger on the 619 in Dad's 8650 is a real lag pig, so it can run all day above maximum rated power and not get over 1300* And that same 619 is only rated for 275 horse. It needs more fuel...
It's what allows the great warranty on these trucks. Chances are, someone already has the cummins software for the engine and is developing a box as we speak.

Good point. But I'd prefer to fill up once a week at $60 instead of once every two weeks at $90-100. It seems less painful that way to me.

Exactly, as power density goes up (more HP per displacement), it becomes increasingly difficult to control NOx emissions.

Hm,
$60 a week X 2 weeks = $120

$90 to $100 every 2 weeks = Savings of $20-$30 every 2 weeks over the above scenario.
(Let me put that in terms even somebody from College Station can understand: that is equivalent to at least 1 case of Shiner )

I had read somewhere (i think i got the link from dtr somewhere so maybe someone knows), but I thought that the Cummins press release had said that the 6.7 was emissions capable for 2007 at 350 hp and 750 lb*ft??? So I'm not buying that this is all do to emissions. Besides in 03 the new CRD was only rated at 305/555 and didnt meet emissions in CA. But when the engine went to 325/610 now they are legal in all states. So More Power doesnt automatically mean higher emissions!

Yeah my 03 in MA was rated at 235/460 and 2 years later my 05 is at 325/610.
