have some modding questions about 2nd gen and 3rd gen trucks

first off, im planning on buying a diesel truck in the next few months, depends on when finances get in line, and im having a bit of a dilemma.

im not sure if I want a 3rd gen truck or a 2nd gen truck with a 12v motor.

heres my problem. honestly I like the looks of the 3rd gen trucks more, but what i hear is that the 12v motor is the best to bomb. i like the way the 2nd gen trucks look also but not as much.

3rd gens cost more, a lot in most cases, also. most of the time more than i can afford.

here would be a basic plan for either truck. basically i would it to run probally high to mid 11s, eventually.

also, I would like it to look like a sport truck. Im not talking about lowering it or anything, I hate lowered trucks, but i dont want to lift it either. it me the 2nd gen trucks look really good lifted, but not as nice as the 3rd gens "sported" out.

also I would like the eventually shorten the truck, I really like the way a reg cab SB truck looks. basically like the bully dog truck. since the genetal consensus is that it would be a disaster if someone swapped a CTD into a 1500, the only option left is shortining a 2500. how much would it cost?? could the 2500 bed be used, just chop that also or wound you need a 1500 SB. the bigest concern about the shortning is getting the frame right after its cut. I would think that if its not perfectly straight the truck would never drive right again. what do you guys think???

i said eventually. all in good time. and it seems that mid to high 11s would cost anywhere from 11-20k in mods. thats not outrageous, especially for something that fast. in fact just about any vehicle would probally cost that much the get that kind of performance out if it.

well, I could put together an 11 sec car for less than $5k including the cost of the car... but these trucks are a whole different ballgame!

they're gonna cost roughly the same to mod, but obviously the buy-in is a lot more expensive w/ the 3rd gen. the 12v's are easy to get power out of, but once you get to a certain level, you gotta throw money at them just like any other truck

so could I, but it would not be very street frendly. basically take fox mustang, remove everything thats not needed, add nitrous, bingo.

basically I know how much it will cost, it dosnt bother me, because it will be spread out over time.

the only thing is that im not sure if I like the look of the 3rd gens that much more than the 2gs to warrant spending an extra 5-10k on one.

you can get a 2nd gen 24 valve into the 11's for about 15 grand in mods. Expecially if its a regular cab and SB.

i would do the 24 valve. just cause i know more about them (if it was me) exp because you can turn off the power and it will make it streetable.

do a transmission, injectors, box, cam, twins, and headwork. That will put you mid 11's with the right setup. with nos you could stick that into the 10 easily..

Wow, 11's is going to be rough. Not sure about the modding. If I had the cash, I'd probably go with a 3rd gen just because of the new body style. Although I do love my 12v. Newer 24v's are just as good, if not better. Only downfall is the injection pump...
