General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

The problem is they haven't figured out the majority of diesel engines are used by businesses.
They'll just leave the state when the cost of doing business gets too high.
There goes more tax revenue leaving unemployed people on the public dole in it's wake.

Beautiful state with an excellent climate but too much government interference.
I managed a 5000 acre farm 25 miles up the coast from Santa Barbara in the '70s.
Ranch had almost a mile of beach with Ronald Reagan and John Travolta for neighbors. It was a paradise.

You would think the government would leave you alone out in the boonies like that but no.
It got so bad dealing with the state that I had no time for farming, paperwork all the time.
Last straw was when the county wanted to put in a water meter and charge us for irrigation water we drew out of two creeks that began and ended totally on the property.
To me it was like charging for the rain.
I only could stand it for four years before returning to the northwest.

Heres my question. I have a 2003 2500 4x4 which is originally from Canada. I don't remember ever seeing a CAT on my stock exhaust, and now I have a side dump custom 5" Diamond Eye setup with the muffler(resonator?) on that comes with it. I also have an AFE air intake. I can put my computer back to normal with the Smarty, but will I pass the visual? Everything else is stock.

I'm an idiot for doing this but I chucked my stock exhaust and stock air intake when had to move into a smaller place in a short time frame.
Looks like i'm good to go. Matched up my CPL number and it came with no cat from the factory. I guess I just need to bring documentation with me for the smog test.

Did my truck 2 months ago in Redding and only failed because my puke bottle was gone but drove to dealer and bought one and was good to go. Took only about 5 min. for my truck as it's all stock, they drove it in and hit the gas to see if it smoked, and just did a visual under the hood.

You sure about the air cleaner? I run a AFe stage 2 and was told it will not pass the visual. I can return the ECM to stock or 1/2 power for no smoke is needed.

Smogged my bucket a while back. Had 1 small SNAFU, but easily fixed. Here is a little history: Used to have a Superchips programmer long ago. Later on I bought an EDGE EZ, but never stacked the programmers, so it was EDGE EZ on stock ECM for a while. Changed the EDGE EZ out for Quadzilla Adrenaline, and got Orders to California tha year they started this smog stuff. Once I got my smog notice, I totally removed the Q-Zilla, and cleared ECM for good measure (It had been throwing a random crank position sensor CEL). Rolled to the local smog/auto repair shop. They said they couldn't see past a certian point in the electronics reading, and I needed to have the ECM re-flashed. Off to the Dodge dealer I go, and fork out $100 for the reflash. Drove it around a few miles as suggested, and back to the smog shop. The said it passed, but they still couldn't see past a certian point. I had to take a gamble at the DMV (which they said has a better readout) for a full on pass. Luckily it passed there. I still don't know if one of the programmers or the Crank Position Sensor was causing the missing data. For visual I brought in the list of items that had applied for the CARB #s. All of my parts passed visual, and were to my surprise on the list. Of course they can't see the injectors. The smog tech was also a bit iffy on the snap test as it blew a little soot, he said it almost failed. I didn't really like how fast they stabbed the throttle for that, it was literally a stomp, not rolling into it.

I still haven't put the Q-zilla back in and miss it a bit.

In addition to the stuff in my sig line I have a BD Super B single, and a pulse flow manifold, both of which have the applied for CARB #s.
