Well alittle bit of good news is that not all counties will have to smog ther trucks acording to dieselpower june 2010 issue certain counties will only have to smog if u sell it. Also if your truck has a GVRW of 14000 lbs u never have to get smogged so go out and get those 4500 5500's and mod away. I wish I knew this loop hole I would have swooped up a 4500 at my local dealer who was blowing them out last year.

Just got the smog check done successfully this last Friday, I did however reinstall the stock fuel curve plate and cataletic converter. cant wait to get the #10 plate back in, feels like it lost a good hundred horse power with the change back to stock. price was $32.95. Glad I save all the stock pieces.

My 04 missed the smog which was due in April. My buddy's 05 which is due in June needs a smog.

Any boxes (edge, Tst, etc) needs to not "missing". The turbo needs to be stock. The High Ram and AFE's can stay.

The joke of this is.....that the boxes will be off in 30 min....30 min down to the smog....and then 30 min to plug them back in for two more years.

California smogs have always been two years......unless the diesel's the state has lost its mind and changed it specially for us??????

Makes me almost want to sell the truck......but that's what the green bean counters in Sacramento want us to do.......drive little pos's that have sudden acceleration....

I went to a Smog Station recommended by some guys last Thursday that stated they were good. The guys who recommended them to me only had Gas cars.

I went by last Thursday (Western Ave. & Torrance Blvd.) and the smog tech guy acted like he was a big shot !!! His first question was if I had in Hi-Perf. equipment on the truck. He started acting like he wrote the laws... He started quoting me a bunch of half truths until I corrected him.

He looked at my exhaust pipe and told me he can tell I wouldn't pass even though my truck was dirty. I just looked at him.

He told me that the "Puke Bottle" would need to re-installed !!! He also told me that there is supposed to be a Smog Sticker somewhere on the truck detailing the smog equipment that came stock on the truck and that he would not be able to Smog the truck without it and to go back to the dealer for it. He said ALL vehicles have them even though I've never seen on a Diesel truck.

He stated that after seeing my exhaust pipe, gauges, AFE air filter and modified breather (missing puke bottle) he would have to really go through my truck with a fine tooth combe to see if I am hidding anythng !!!

He really takes this stuff personally and acted like his S _ _ _ doesn't stink !!! Don't go to the Smog Station on the South East corner of Western Ave. and Torrance Blvd.

Needless to say I told him where he could go and the direct route to get there and burned rubber out of there.

I took my Edge and Smarty off previously, washed the truck Friday and scrubed the soot/exhaust out of the inside of my exhaust tip. I also added Lucas fuel treatment and Power Service but my Schwitzer turbo (HTT) was left on. Also, when I added my 4 in. MBRP exhaust, I did NOT put the resonator back on so I don't have a Resonator on my exhaust.

To cut a long story short, I got my truck smogged yesterday evening (Friday) out in Fontana, Ca and my truck passed with flyng colors !!! With my HTT turbo, no Resonator, no Puke Bottle, and no BS Smog Sticker. And no, I did not grind off the Schwitzer name from my HTT turbo and I'm running DDP 110 injectors, AFE Air cleaner and CFM+ intake horn. I used my Smarty to clear all ODBC-II codes.

They did a visual inspection of the engine compartment but I couldn't tell if they looked at the exhaust pipe. Thee did a snap test of the exhaust which the smoke cleared up very quickly and they checked the crankcase with the truc running at an idle and there was no smoke. My truck is on the all stock settings. My Smarty put everything back to the stock setting.

I plan on moving out of California before my next smog check is due. With high taxes, high cost of living, jobs going oversears and now Diesel Smog checks... I've had enough !!!

Good luck to my fellow Diesel owners !!!

I'm looking at moving back from Ak but considering selling my truck if I'm going to go through the hell that it can be to smog your vehicle.

Heres my question. I have a 2003 2500 4x4 which is originally from Canada. I don't remember ever seeing a CAT on my stock exhaust, and now I have a side dump custom 5" Diamond Eye setup with the muffler(resonator?) on that comes with it. I also have an AFE air intake. I can put my computer back to normal with the Smarty, but will I pass the visual? Everything else is stock.

I'm an idiot for doing this but I chucked my stock exhaust and stock air intake when had to move into a smaller place in a short time frame.

Yeah some places are just like that. I got my mom's Honda Accord smogged about a week ago. Bone stock except for a short ram intake I put on a while ago. I showed up to the smog station with all the paperwork INCLUDING the CARB number for the intake. Believe it or not, the woman behind the counter started giving me grief about it before even looking at the vehicle. She said I needed a CARB sticker blah blah. I said I'll be back with it... Drove 20 feet down the road to another smog place. Not only did they have me in and out in less than 15 minutes, they even gave me a discount without me asking for it!! The car passed with flying colors. After all, it's a bone stock Accord that's been maintained well! It's bad enough how strict the emissions law is, it's unbelievable when the smog people try to give you hard time for a vehicle that is obviously passing.

It gets worse for California

I was reading in the current issue of Diesel Progress magazine this afternoon that starting in 2014 all Calif diesel engines over 50 hp and over ten years old will have to start paying a yearly penalty that will increase each year. Pre 1994 engines will have to pay more.
Idea is to force people with older non-pollution controlled engines to buy new cleaner ones.

Don't know how they'll enforce it for gensets, farm tractors, etc but I imagine for highway vehicles they'll tack it on to your registration.
