I just did it in my new diesel Golf- it's a visual inspection only, at least in Riverside Co. EGR, cat, aircleaner... yup, done, buh-bye.

Are you in riverside CA ??

My vehicle tags are due in March, Just says pay 795.00 no mention of smog.
I would be in trouble on the visual.

That's just his registration fee here. He doesn't need the smog test yet. $795,hard to believe. Mine was $525 for an '07 2500.

My utilty bill averages $60.00 and I wear shorts ten months of the year here. There's tradeoffs everywhere. You live in a beautiful state. We were in Zion and Bryce late April. Just missed the snow. My father-in-law lives west of Cedar City on six acres. Blue, blue skies. Loved it!!

Good greif. I thought my wifes Trailbalzer was obsured at $350 a year. No flipin way Ide pay that for reg. My truck is $80.50/year and in anouther year or two it will drop to $65 then a few years later it will drop to $35. You can have your 10 months of shorts for that price.

You don't need the smog test until the 5th year, at least with the gassers. I guess it's the same with diesels. And no, they didn't do a snap test- didn't even put it on the rollers. I don't know if I got a rookie or a vet, guy just did a walkaround, hood open, quick look under for an intact cat... the computer entry stuff and payment took longer than the inspection. $49.95 plus $11.95 filing and "Kalifoo-nee-ah" just got a little less in debt.

What year is your Golf? i cannot remember if I ever had a Cat on my truck, but I know it does not have one now. I bought the truck in 2000 and have never had a smog test, so this year it is going to be interesting. Dang Liberal's with their social taxes disguised as fee's.

I just received my renewal and there was no requirement for smog ck of any kind. Very good news, the bad news my tags were $327.00. Taxes disguised as fees!
