General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Guess what I did with a Ford Twin Turbo.

Guess what I did with a Ford Twin Turbo.

Im a mechanic for a company that has several locations in the midwest. I travel around and fix machinery. Nothing was going right yesterday. And and a dead Freightliner with a bad starter sitting in the fuel island at a small truck stop was part of it.
It was getting late, still had hours of driving to do, I decided to pull start it.
It was a FL112 with sleeper, flatbed trailer with several farm implements and a Case 100 tractor with loader. Hooked trucks with chain, put ford in 4wd, had driver put semi in 7th. hammered on it, got going pretty good. popped clutch and he was running. I didnt think that there was a chance in heck of that working. Made me feel better, especially with the few people watching.
Those twin turbos do have some good power, but Ill take my CTD any day.

I had a guy with a big rig on my property one day. His start was dead.
He dropped the trailer, we hooked on it with an old step van!!
took off wide open. About 30 mph, he dropped the clutch. She started about the time both were coming to a stop.
The step van had the frame bent at the bumper where we hooked it!!!
She never really was the same again!!!
It is something to pull one with a load!!!

I bet. My first thought when I read this was of the frame getting yanked out from under the Ford the moment the clutch took hold on the big truck.

Too long for a complete story, but picture a busload of Army National Guard troops push starting a Greyhound bus on a cold winter day. We did it right handily, too.
