Guages for differential & manual tranny

I was over at the host site for may madness talking to a gent that had like 6 guages on top of his dash. His truck was a 1998 with a manual tranny, he had a guage for the tranny and one for the rear end. I was wondering how many of you guys are doing the same.

Thinking about it but noy yet. I have also seen a temp gauge for the transfer case. With it's small ammount of fluid it could be a worthwile addition.

Waste of time and money, IMO.....by far the most important temps to measure on a rear axle or manual tranny are the oil temps between the meshing gears.....measuring the oil temps in the sump have been proven to be extremely inaccurate if you are trying to determine if you have an overheating condition.....In OEM testing critical oil temps have been reached at the gears without a critical temp being reached in the sump. Things like case temps and ambient air temps play a critical role in oil sump temps......When I was a TDR member, Castrol had released testing data when developing the gear oil for the NV4500 and noted such findings and concluded for themselves that an overheating condition could occur when the sump temps were at an acceptable temp. Something to think about, anyway...

If you just like more gadgets and want to fill the dash with more gauges, then those gauges are a good option...

I've had a temp guage in my 5600 6 spd for about 2 years now. It's coming out!

The temps in this transmission are so low it's a waste of a guage. I have been running Redline MTL which I'm sure helps keep the temps down.

During the winter months, the needle doesn't even come off the peg. Summer months even while towing, I've never seen over 165 on the guage.

If you like guages, go for it. Otherwise put the money towards a bigger BOMB.
