Got To Be The Worst Diesel Mechanic Ever......

i met him the other day.... long story short I've been looking for a shop to advance my timing for me and do it CORRECTLY... a friend of mine drives semi's and told me the diesel shop across the lot from the warehouse he works from does awesome work for them and a guy let's call him "Joe" is the BOMB (thanx for the edit admin) when it comes to performance diesels.... well i arrive to the shop and I see mainly PSD and alot of LP trucks... I ask for "Joe" and he comes over and looks at the truck and says.... and i quote... " all ya gotta do is loosen them 2 (pionting at some bolts near front of pump) or 3... i can't rember bolts right there and then get a big pair of channel locks and just turn it.... prolly that way is the best way... but when you turn it you'll know the difference.... it'll either run better or worse...." so i then asked him how would i know what * it was set at and he replied..." well they limit you to about 5* either way but you'll know when you are there.... TRUST ME"..... I'll find someone who dosen't rely on repeat business..... well from the mistakes they make anyway....

oh i also forgot to add i asked him bout the KDP and he said "i'm not sure what your talking bout.... u mean that plastic pin that pushes in the back of the gear on the pump? it'll only break off if u turn the motor with it in the gear.... don't worry bout it..." and also most of their work is on LP trucks as the company will drop off a truck and pick uo another constantly..... there has to be 5-8 trucks there at all times....

Storys like that and my own personal experience of dealing with clowns like that is why I atempt mostly every thing myself. I figure if morons like that can take peoples money for doing the job, I gotta be able to do it for nothing. If you were closer and had say... a cooler full of beer I would show you how its really not that hard and you dont need the fancy Snap On tools for the job (they might make it a little faster but..)

That is EXACTLY how the bozo in Santa Paula, Calif "fixed" my truck, as well as changed my fuel plate, because he "couldn't get mine (#10) to work". You take your truck in to someone who is supposed to be knowledgeble, and get some hack. Your were lucky, you found out before it was too late, I was not so lucky. I just real glad he is not a brain surgeon. I now have to re-do everything he did. I guess I am learning a lot.

88bird, "Joe" sounds like he is in the running, but he can't be worse than whoever did this:

Monty posted that pic a while back. Apparently some butcher forgot how things went together so he just bent, cut, and spliced until all the connections were made, then sold it. The new owner came in with low power, white smoke, and rough operation complaints.

Yeah I can see how the timing would be a wee bit off with uneven injections lines like that.

LOL, that sure was a fun truck to work on The truck also had a rounded off VP44 keyway. It took a new engine harness, new lines, new insulators and a VP to get it back to normal.
