General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Got "dipped" in Minn.

I believe scenarios like that are okay since some farmers run all thier farm vehicles with red. Just as long as you us the regular stuff ON the road. That would be easy to do with a valve setup. Valve in one position for farm fuel, and flip the valve the other way to draw from the road tank.

They are not going to give you the benefit of the doubt.

That used to be true years ago, but now most states laws read that if the vehicle is licensed for "on-road", or has a tag, then you can not run the off road fuel in it at all....or at least they are enforcing it now...
When I bought my truck in TX, the PO had dual tanks and was running off-road fuel in one. Fortunatly the Highway Patrolman who did the VIN inspection here was a buddy, or I might have got pinged for the red fuel still in the second tank.........

They dip all over. Just dont get caught. With the new DPF coming on all 07 trucks , you dont want to run red fuel anyway .

From what I've noticed state troopers don't really have much to do. I get stopped by the same guy every time I go home just to "chat". He's a nice guy though, just board I guess.

Seems sort of weird since Calif usually has laws that other states don't and enforces them very well.
I've also heard people in So Cal complain how hard it is to find red fuel even though they have a legal use for it.

Sounds like one of them YMCA cops... maybe the truck was not all he liked

I think that the noise ordinance is based on gross vehicle weight. The more you weigh, the louder you can get...

Nice story though; I've not heard of anyone getting checked in IL. I have a friend who's a 150 operator and he loads up on the stuff... Its funny cause we'd idle the trucks at the pool hall and he'd have a big patch of pink/red snow by his pipe.

I hope you plumb in 2 valves , one for the return line too , otherwise your going to have red in both tanks , and if they were both full , your main tank would overflow if you were running on the "red" tank.

You're not stupid, you are very correct.

It's the same stuff (99% of the time), the offroad just has the dye/chemical tracer in it, and is not taxed for onroad use.

weve ran the stuff all my life. ive got about ten tanks i could go to every day. When going to the sale barn youd better run the legal stuff though.Ive also had dealerships tell me that it will hurt my trucks in the past(ford dealership) so i told him that i can run it through a piece of $250,000 equipment but cant run it through a $40,000 truck.

Ditto on the Jerry cans... I don't get it. That is none of his business as long as you are not running it on public roads.

i dont see why you cant run it in a truck with farm plates, all our trucks have farm plates....but we use them to haul cattle and stuff on the ranch we live on
