Knocked out 21.5 MPG several times on the 70 mile round trip in my properly valved truck. The 04 knocked out 23.5 a few months back on a trip from VA through southern KY to AR! I was impressed with that considering we were running the hills atleast 75% of the tank.

I stay right @ 13 with mine...mostly city driving. When I do get out on the open road , I MIGHT get 17.
I wish it were better , but it`s still better than either of my Dakotas ever got (99 with the 5.2 and an `02 with the 4.7...both 4WD).

Mine regularly will go 740 miles to a tank. Now my miles per tank may be skewed as I top off on fill up which usually nets an additional 3-4 gallons. I've hit over 800 twice. I just went through my log book and saw that the truck to date has averaged over 20 mpg (59,184 miles). I've hit over 23 on sveral occasions. I've also hit in the 16's too. All these numbers are unloaded oc course. I saw that I had a 25.5 but threw it out as a anomoly. I checked my hours too which were at 1604. Thats an average of right at 37 mph. Not bad. For those who claim average speeds on a trip of "70-80 mph", I'm willing to bet the real average was closer to 60. I've done this many many times on my trips from Houston to deep into Louisiana and on a good day I might get an average of 60 for the whole trip even though the majority of the time I'm on the highway hitting 70. One trip I had managed to keep my average speed up around 68 mph. Traffic jam for ten minutes. My average for the trip dropped to something like 59 mph aven though I kept my speed up for the rest of the trip. Its like getting all A's your entire college career and then getting the one C. The 4.0 is suddenly 3.3. It takes a lot of A's to undo that C just like it takes a lot of sustained speed to undo that 2 minute stop a traffic light. I would venture to say that sans the hot shot drivers on this board, most peoples lifetime average speed on their trucks is probably in the mid 30's. Just my observation. I spend to much time in my truck. Good thing its fun to drive.
