Got 46 MPG with 06 VW Jetta TDI
Drove to Missouri from Arizona for Christmas and the best milage we made was 46 MPG hand calcutated. Have a 06 VW Jetta TDI 6spd Auto with about 19500 miles on it. seemed to get better milage when I put 4 ounces of Power Service (white bottle) when filling up a empty tank. we drive the heck out of that thing only had it since April.

I don't mean to jump off topic but this has been bothering me for the past couple of weeks. I can't seem to figure what TDI stands for. My best guess it Turbo Diesel "something"
Anyways, that is awesome mileage. Do you think it would be any better if it was a manual?

if it's the dsg trans they say they are suppose to get better milage then the manuals.get some more miles on there and it should get even better.i've got up to 58 mpg with my 2000 jetta, but usually it's just a hair over 50 the way i drive, and with the blended fuel now it drops me a couple for sure, think my last fill was like 48mpg

Very enviable - first tank on my used '96 DC 3500 dually was 26mpg.
I did some tweaking, a few mods, installed a 6-speed, learned to drive a Cummins, now I get 16mpg if keeping up with light-to-light traffic, or 19-21 if I drive it like a 3500 dually.
Guess I need to put a large wooden block under the go-pedal................

Blacksheep: Congrat's on getting a wonderful little diesel vehicle! With absolutely no '07 TDI's available for sale in the US , your '06 TDI's value is going up as we speak !
46mpg.. That is excellent! We just got an '05 TDI NewBeetle with the 6spd DSG tranny with ~20k on the clock. Just this weekend we made a 70-75mph round trip to San Antonio. We got 40.6mpg which included urban driving as well.. We were thrilled to say the least...
I wonder if you've learned about the little "venting" trick when filling up your TDI's tank? A quirk of the vehicle's gasser heritage... It allows stuffing in about 1-1/2 gals of extra diesel fuel at each fillup.... Talk about RANGE!
That was the very first thing I learned after haunting the TDICLUB.COM website!
I wished our CTD's tank would do that...

My folks just bought a used 2002 jetta TDI to try out a diesel sin ce I have been having good luck with them. They have been getting 34MPG. Its an auto. They/I have not done many long hwy drives with it so we don't know how good it can get plus its the winter. My dad loves the car and double the trips to work on a fill up.

the auto's in the 04 down will drop you at least 5mpg.marv that sounds kinda low, find somebody with a vag-com to check your timing.if you lived closer i'd do it for ya.go over to the tdiclub, there is a list of people with a vag-com,most will do it for a beer or two.also what does it have for miles on it??an 02 and an auto it's gonna need a timing belt at 40,000,60,000 for a stick.in 03 they went to a 100,000 mile belt for either one.make sure it gets changed, also do the water pump.
