Question A good single turbo for a PS?

What's happenin fellars? My question is this....I'm looking for a good single turbo for a Powerstroke diesel. I've been looking at a lot of the primary turbos some of you guys are running, in particular the B2. I've also been looking at some different Borgwarner setups such as the S4 and K31 with the forged compressor wheel. I have also been looking at some of Garretts GT turbos like the GT42. I've even got some qoutes on this particualr turbo in the GT42RS trim but is 1400cfm really going to be enough for my requirments. I want a turbo I can grow into.

Thanks in advance and I appreicate anyones opnion.

You might want to look at a Garrett GTP38R or Hypermax H2E
I would prefer the Garrett

Snowman, thanks for the Reply! I've been running a H2E for a while now and it's pretty anemic for what I want to do with the truck. I'm looking for a single to support 600 to 650rwhp. Both the Garrett, ATS and Hypermax H2E ain't going to cut it. As soon as I get serious I'm going to call innovative turbo systems and talk with them about their GTB series turbo's. These are Borgwarner turbochargers and they can make billett wheels to support 2000 hp if the need be. I've seen some of thier compressor maps on the GT80's (I'm lookin at a 88) and they are unbelievable.

Thanks again

I have the GT42 turbo, but its on the Cummins not the PSD. It is not a small charger by any means. 1400CFM is not quite right though. Its closer to 1200 MAX. I run about 60 PSI at WOT ans recently cracked off 620 HP, but it was way out of tune and had many many things wrong with the set-up. Its much better now.

First thing you will notice about the 42 is the noise. Its the single loudest turbo I have ever run. I would say its three times as loud as any of the performance turbos on the market for the Dodge.

650 HP is a snap with the 42.

Ball bearing is available for those with big wallets too.

Thanks for the reply don! I'm wondering what trim 42 you are running? Seems like I read you where running the 53? Are you using the standard turbine wheel? I know David lotts running the 72mm turbine off the GT40, but I don't think thats where I want to go.

Yep, its a 53 wheel on the compressor and the turbine is 83mm.
The compressor wheel is 102mm on the exducer.
