It's all about the money. PERIOD
The companies try to build the flimsiest product at maximum profit.
The same thing happens in construction, but most consumers haven't got a clue they are living in a p.o.s. I see it everyday. "why would I pay 200,000 for that house when this one LOOKS the same for 150,000?" The guy building the quality 200,000 house goes outta business and the crappy building nationwide builder gets bigger.

One of my workers said his wife works for Ford. She was having a problem with a starter bolt being cross threaded. Her supervisor yelled at her for it. He came over and used the impact to force the bolt in. Now this is the same supervisor who is "protected" by the union. This plant was building the Ford and the Mazda mini vans. They were also told that any inferior products are to be put on the FORD vans as there were to only be high quality parts on the Mazdas. *** is THAT?

Most "supervisors" are non union. Granted there are lazy wining cry babies in any union, however, that still does not mean that unions are responsible for companies going out of business. That responsibility lies solely on the top of the corporate ladder.

I know nothing about unions in the auto world, but I'll tell ya this...... In the world of constructon if ya want union workers, you'll pay 60% MORE and get 50% LESS work done in a day.
