I need to know IF the speedo DRIVE gars on the output shaft is plastic of metal.
The wAcHoS at Dodge want $47.00 for it and have no idea why it's 5 times more than the NV4500
gear.

The gear is a steel shaft with a plastic gear. I have one for sale. It's Mopar PN 1-52068152 which is the stock gear I think. I had to change mine because I have oversize tires. If you're interested I can count the teeth. I know it's either a 30 or 31.

OH, sorry, Yes it's a steel gear I believe. Actually it's a worm gear P/N 4549212. On mine, I had to pay $62 for the right angle reducing/reversing gear. It had a 3:2 ratio. Then I had to change the gear in the tranny to make the speedo more accurate. Without the right angle gear the speedo runs backwards.

Yep that's the one!! Since it's metal I can dig the orange plastic out of it
Maybe I can get the speedo working on this one.
I bought a 90 D250 for parts and noticed the adapter on the speedo, found
orange gear ground into the drive gear. I guess someone screwed up before
I got the chance.
Thanks Again

The insert on those has to be clocked in different positions to accomodate different cable gears. If the worm is actually plastic it's probably OK even though it took out the speedo gear. The worm is a lot stronger than the other gear due to it's construction. I wonder why it got stripped. It's hard to bind up the cable hard enough to strip the gear IMHO. Maybe it got loose or some ST machanic put it in wrong. It's major work to replace anyway so if you can keep out of it it's a good thing.
