An Automatic none the less.

I got 120,000 Freaking HARD miles on my 24V, and I blew the motor,, completely my fault.

My Motor was ran WOT right after startup towing 30,000Lbs, in 40* weather,, was ran WOT for hours on end in 125* Weather. Got 10-15,000 Mile oil changes, and a fuel filter when the motor would miss.

What did we replace ? nothing but filters until I got the truck at 86K, and had a rumble of failures because of my lead foot,, by 90,000 miles, I was running nearly 500RWHP, and ran that way until 119,800 miles and I held 1800* EGT and 45PSI boost for too long and damaged a cylinder. (I was towing a 49' trailer, and was racing a PowerStroke up a hill.. I couldn't let him beat me,, LOL )

They are TOUGH motors.

My 12V truck has ~130,000 miles and has been runnig a 12 second 1/4 mile, and 60+PSI boost, since ~'99 or '00. it's about to get faster, and more boost.

P.S I had 340 000 miles on my 95 cummins . Replaced the water pump, lift pump and had the alternator rebuilt as well as the starter( I start my trucks about 20 times a day). Still had the original auto tranny in it when i sold it.

I went over 200,000 on mine with no real problems other than clutch related from the heavy loads. After that I had to change the water pump and injector pump. Loosing the engine was due to a bad thermostat from Cummins, the engine was just fine and would have done many more miles, at 240,000 the hone lines were still in the cylinders, some wear on the rod bearings and no wear on the mains.

My bone stock 96 has over 160K miles with only oil and fuel filter changes. All I have had to do is the starter contacts, hoses/belts, adjust valves once, replace the AC clutch and rebuild the trans (at 103K).

Bang for buck it is the most economical vehicle in the yard.

I tow fairly heavy (12-15K+) when I tow (not too often right now) and use it mainly as a commuter in 70-75 mph traffic. None of my old trucks can touch it mileage-wise and neither the Jag nor the 911 can pull a trailer.

If I don't hit 300K on the engine in this truck it will only be because I traded it in on a new one or sold it to one of my brothers.

Haulin and MikeJ us 'em the way they were designed to be used.

Keeping the engine stock will help your mileage get higher, but good maintenance is the biggest key.
For anyone with a 24v engine, I suggest a fuel pressure gauge, and the larger banjo bolts to extend the life of the fuel pump. The don't guarantee no lift pump failure, but for 30 bucks, they're cheap insurance.
I think I partially cooked a VP-44 on my truck when it was running out of fuel near the end of the quarter, and I didn't notice the pattern in time. And that was when I had a Holley Blue fuel pump on there. It just couldn't provide the flow I needed with a PM3. The VP44 still works, but causes a shudder in the engine when the PM3 is turned up a little, where it didn't used to do that.

252,000 miles on my 94. It has no had an easy life. I've hot-shotted all over Texas, used it for farm/ranch work, went almost 90 days straight w/o ever unhooking my gooseneck! Only engine work I've had to do was replace the fuel shut-off solenoid. Lost 5th gear, but kinda knew that was a problem in these years. Just put my first clutch in couple of weeks ago. I don't thinnk it cares for this cold Pa weather anymore than I do, but we are bith surviving! I absolutely love this cummins. I have noticed, this engine is definitly more sensitive to keeping good fuel and filters than my 7.3 was, but runs like a champ. Like everybody says, just good regular routine maintenance - just like all equipment. I will be very disappointed if ai don't break the 1/2 million mark in this truck. Have spent some money on the frontend, but kinda expect too with this much weight up front.

Stamey, clue me in. What are the larger banjo bolts? Where are they located?
