Gear Ratios thru the years

I'm doing some rear-end shopping since I blew up the spider gears in my 96 dana 70 thanks to putting the nv4500 in front of it. I've got the 3.54s and I'm looking for a dana 80. All I can seem to find are 80s from 2000 to 2002 and they all have the 3.55s. Would a 0.01 difference in ratio be noticable while in 4wd? I really need to get this thing back on the road. I'm getting tired of driving my dads stock 95 around (SLOW!!!!). I forgot how gutless the stock automatics feel. Any information/insight into this would be great.

Its the same ratio, some people just cut off the repeating numbers, others round up. The pinion should have 11 teeth, and the ring gear will have 39. 39/11= 3.545454545........

Proper rounding to two decimal places makes it 3.55, or if you cut off the numbers after two, its 3.54. It really doesn't matter, its the same ratio.

They put dana 80's in the early second gens too, both with the 3.5 and the 4.1 ratio.

I know I can break them, but it should be a bit stronger than the 70. I would just like the strongest factory part I can get. And thank you for the info on the ratios. I figured there wasnt a whole lot of difference.

All manual trans trucks got DANA 80's and all dual rear wheel trucks got DANA 80's. That is from 94 thru 02 diesel trucks.

I know which trucks got the 80s and which didn't. I have the 70 from when my truck was an auto. I just wasnt sure if there was really a difference between the 3.55 and 3.54. And I have found an 80 that I'm picking up tomorrow, so hopefully this weekend I can get my truck back on the road. I'm ready to get out of my dads 2wd, because I like pulling the idiots that cant drive in snow out of ditches.
