Question Fuel Fitting Thread Sealer

What is the correct thread-sealer for such things as hose-barbs, etc., that are part of the fuel system??

I have always used Teflon-tape, in the past; but, I have read somewhere that maybe it isn't a good idea for fuel lines, maybe for fear of little slivers of the tape getting where they could do harm.

Thanks.

Permatex #2 non-hardening has been used in the oil field for decades to seal threaded and flanged connections against hydrocarbons. It's cheap, easy to find and works on all my fuel system fittings except the -AN, which shouldn't use a sealant.

I fought a seeping leak on an above ground farm diesel tank for years with various thread sealants. The only thing that finally cured it was Permatex #2.

I've used Permatex#2, Rectorseal Tplus2, and when it comes to the pipe tape, I've used the YELLOW tape-it's for propane and fuels, just do 1-1/4 wrap. With all of them, stay up from the bottom threads, you get you seal higher anyway. All have given a really good seal when used properly.

Yellow Teflon here.
I use it on all of the fitting on my service rig... No Leaks... 5+ years
Yellow = Good

Just make sure you wrap it in the right direction or it peels back off as you thread it in.

Thing I don't like about using any kind of thread tape is that it can be very difficult to remove any debris in a female fitting if you have to take things apart.
Seems even a very small scrap of teflon tape would do an excellent job plugging up an injector.

your right.... That is one place I would use it... Maybe before the filter... I use it on my service trailer on everything... I even keep a roll in there for "just in case"

Hose barbs do not require sealant either like -an 37* fittings and SAE 45* fittings. Grip-tite barbs don't even require a hose clamp. I have grip-tite fittings with Goodyear griptite 1/2" fuel line on my truck. no leaks.

Most any thread sealer will work fine in diesel. From the generic hardware store stuff to the fancy. Compounds with teflon are best and yellow teflon tape is fine too. I don't like anti seize because it is essentially grease with ground up metal. White reqular teflon tape is just as good as yellow but is thinner and needs more wraps. Don't wrap the tape such that it covers any of the end of the fitting, only the threads. If using a regular pipe dope that is spread on don't apply any to the female thread. And don't use teflon on refrigerant lines.

I was not referring to the barbed end of a hose barb, but the threaded end.

Thanks for all the replies and possibilities.

I intend to acquire some of each recommendation, just to have on hand.

Who knows just what emergency might pop up next.
