Does anyone know if the ford aftermarket guys got anything for putting a 5r100 inplace of a 4r100? My buddy has an excursion and cant keep a tranny in it for his life. Hes on his 5th one. They arent stock replacements, they are built up aftermarkets.

 

It is a different animal, the electronics are completely different, and the 5r110 does not have a valve body.

Have him contact BTs transmissions, they are like Goerend for us.

Where is he getting the aftermarket trans from? I would suggest BTS in Lead Hill Arkansas. Brian has a great rep, and stands by his work.

 

BTS gets another vote from me.. A friend of mine got his last year and is very pleased.

 

SnoYes He built one him self and the others are from his buddie who has a trans shop and has a bunch up costumers with beefed up fords and no issues. 2 converters went and took the rest of the trans with. 2 others just blew the guts out the pan while driving down the highway. One was on the way home from florida in the summer, now the fifth one is starting to shift funny and slip. Im gonna tell him bts again but i wanna put a manual in it. That would be a one of a kind excursion then.

 

I think a few guys have put the ZF six speed in, though if I remember there was alot of work. To be honest, the BTS trans may be one of the best options. It is alot of money up front, but the peace of mind has been great. Alot of high HP guys running the BTS trans, I think he rates the trans up to 700 HP, which on a DI stroker, is alot of HP. If you hop over on the Ford sites you can find more about the swap and about BTS. Again, one of the best mods I have done to any truck, has been a great trans, though I am no where near the HP limits BTS can handle. Just running a Turbonetics BB turbo with intake, exhaust, and tuner. Maybe putting 300-350 HP at the wheels, which is getting close to the upper limits of the PMR Rods in the later year strokers (some 01s, all 02 and 03 have the PMRs, which limit out at 400-450 HP).

 

what is he doing to destroy so many trannies? If he needs a good one to send to Brians I have mine for sale. I'm going to install a NV4500 in my F350.

We dont know, he doesnt drive like a street racer. The x is 9200lbs, he tows a yamaha rhino and small trailer 2500lbs couple times a month. Its all mountains here so everyday its up and down 3-4 mile 7-9% grade hills to go anywhere. I told him to trade the thing in and get something else also, but he loves the thing.
