Ford Quality Strikes Again....

A Ford diesel "buddy" of mine just traded off his 2003 with 77K miles on it because it started running rough, and the tranny was slipping. He traded for a 2004 Ford dually with 24K miles and it was in the shop for two weeks, then he drove it for a week, then back in the shop for another week. He then (after getting real made at the dealership) traded it for a 2005 dually with 150 miles on it. He is now happy as a clam? For a year or two at the most?

I just looked at him and said 160K miles on the same truck and smiled.

He did not offer me anymore beer.

Five new PSDs last spring at work. All have less than 4000 miles. One just got back from the dealer's tranny shop, the other four are in their parking lot for the same thing.

Nuff Said...

The big 3 have to be real competitive in cost so maybe Pherd should consider dropping the warranty duration and mileage down a bit, I bet it'd save them an awful lot of money.

A freind of mine bought a 93 CTD new and had a lot of problems with lift pumps(mostly poor dealer service refusing to address the problem) and swore off Dodge. When I bought my 98 he went on and on about how ****y Dodges were and I would be sorry bla, bla, bla. Anyway in 03 he goes out and buys himself a new SUPER FORD EVERYTING 1 TON well today and 40k later it snows and he gets stuck in his driveway cause the SUPER FORD EVERYTING 1 TON wont shift into 4x4. As luck has it I drive by and offer some help get him unstuck and the thing wont start Give it a jump and it starts but the volt gauge is low so he takes it to the dealer and they say the alt shot and its on 2 week back order So he calls me up for a ride home cause they dont have a ride for him till tomorrow(mini van ) and on the way home he tells me about all the problems hes had with the SUPER FORD EVERYTHING 1 TON
3 sets of front rotors,1 trans,2 tow ins for no start, batts, alt, electrical problems like no 4x4 shift ect all in less than 2 years Riding home in my CTD he says to me yeah you cant beat these Cummins

Tell your buddy that the Auto Mechanics Union thanks him for keeping their members gainfully employed.

My buddy and his nephew are both ford guys. The nephew has a '00 7.3 ps...really nice truck, actually. I rolled up to say hi yesterday and they were talking in the driveway---apparently said ps owner had killed 2 SETS of batteries trying to start it over the weekend! I can see one set, but TWO? I'd think it'd be cheaper to suck up what's left of your pride and have it towed than to go through four batteries Anyway, they always give me a hard time cause it's one crusty old dodge or another when I pull up. He asked me how I liked the cummins. I said 'it's ok' Couldn't believe I only have one battery and it still starts

I must admit, I like the way Pherd's look over the Dodge's but I just can't seem to get over the minor detail on how they run... or lack thereof.

Talking

One of our city cops had a dodge gasser 4x4 and just traded it in on a ferd diesel. I rolled up next to him at a stoplight the other day. I just looked straight ahead and acted like I didn't see him. When the light changed I launched my truck and left him 1/2 block behind without breaking traction or the speed limit. I had to hide my smile when he rolled up to the next light. It won't be long until I see him stuck on the side of the road.

I'll say one thing for Ford, they sure love their recalls.I was at Ford in the early 90s when they had the paint recall on pickups. They were getting ready for Explorer aliminum heads when I left there.I would imagine they must have some beautys on their diesels.

I must be lucky, I have a '00 Powerstroke and it's cost less to keep on the road than my '98.5 Dodge. Got about 260,000 on the Ford and 145,000 on the Dodge. Only thing I had to do to the engine on the Ford so far is cam position sensors. The Dodge well VP-$$, lift pump, front seal which was okay since it gave me a reason to go in and tab the KDP. Oh, almost forgot the cracked exhaust manifold.
