Ford guys...

I talked to this guy the at the pumps one time that drove a beat up f-250, he started a conversation with me so we talked a bit and i asked if he had a chip and he goes on to tell me ''i dont need it, i have 500 ci powerstroke.'' Said he had a 12v dodge that had every performance mod possible and started naming stuff i have never heard before and continued to tell me that it was a 98 12v dually with the 8sp allison and it ran 12.8. Hmm... 8spd allison thats a new one to me Then he tells me he sold it cause it had all this stuff on it and it only made 600 hp at the wheels but his stock powerstroke comes with 600 hp from the factory... I have heard some stuff but this topped it by far. If im lying im dying...swear on everything this guy really told me that.

Nice, real nice.... Yeah sometimes us ford owners just HAVE to "try" and believe every word the salesman at the ford dealer says.... Otherwise, how are those guys gonna feed their families?

Seriously though, there are alot of trucks out there. And a lot of rabid fans of those trucks. Don't have to please anybody else with what you drive. Some stuff is good, and some trucks are a good fit for their owners.

Me, I like my ford. Sure, it is pretty slow, quarter mile times are probably in the 30 second range, probably dynos at about 135 HP, but it pulls what I want it to pull, gets me there every time, and is consistent.

And you know what, there are probably a few million people that can say the same no matter what they drive. (Well maybe they have faster 1/4 mile times and more HP, but the second part...)

I don't think you can do anything but feel sorry for this guy. He obviously loves his truck and when he finally realizes he been sold a bill of goods, he'll be suitable embarrassed. After all, you're probably not the first person he's told this to. I have to wonder though, was his salesman the great great grandson of P.T.Barnum?

I have to agree with you ironpants. I've owned vehicles that were not "desirable" by most people's standards but boy I did enjoy them. You just have a hard time parting with a reliable vehicle. My old 93 2500 is as ugly as they come but it would crank everyday and did not leave me stranded, even when the flex plate broke. (twice)

He got the horsepower and torque numbers mixed up.

I know for a fact he was being serious thats the sad part...He must have a real sleeper, i'd never guess a truck that beat up would be a stock 600 hp powerstroke Someone needs to put down the crack pipe and back away slowly

No, that is NOT TRUE! At one time, Ford had about a 10% interest in Cummins but Cummins has LONG since bought those shares back. That rumor has been around for years.

I just finished reading all 3 pages of this post and lots of others and one thing that came to mind. Why are people here and else where always talking about how fast their truck ran the 1/4 and top speed. I always thought you bought a truck to tow or haul. The more you had to do with the truck the bigger one you bought. I once liked to have a fast vehicle so I bought a 5.0 mustang. Now before you all get on here and say that wasn't a fast car, it was a bit faster than all the stuff added to any of these makes of trucks to make them fast and all I did was pick up the car at the dealer.
I have a 2001.5 235hp that I use mostly as a driver, gets great mileage and has plenty power for me. I can't imagine driving fast on public roads in a truck that weighs 7000 + lbs on 265 10 ply tires.
Maybe my rant is not called for but I just don't understand.

I too dreamed about a diesel truck for many years. I read all the stuff and drove a 7.3 at work. I finally got the Dodge. Well then I found this site, which I have to say is one of the best on here with info. The problem is I went from being so happy about owning " THE BEST DIESEL TRUCK EVER" to finding out that the steering is bad, the fuel system is junk, front ends don't last, don't tow anything bigger than an atv or you have to up grade your transmission. Then they say the alloy rims split, and so on. Oh by the way the engines go for a million miles, well if its not a "53". Sorry I just get tired of "this is best and that is junk". I have driven 2-7.3's @ work for years. 1 is a powerstroke E 450 cube van and the other was a 92 non turbo 7.3 3/4. I can really say that they were great engines, may not been over powered but stayed on the road and got the job done. I'm a Dodge guy, I wear the hat and talk the talk but come on everyone they are trucks that we didn't make so lets not get crazy defending these high price piles of junk. I liked the comment a guy somewhere said about owning an old 300 6-cyl gas, I think it would be far less stressful to own. You could buy a new engine and drop it in for the price of a vp-44.
Anyway enough, sorry for the rant and getting off subject I am just a little disappointed with my truck. I can't enjoy a drive in it because i'm worried about something breaking while driving it. I have to say that I do not trust my truck enough to go any distance, I would not take it on vacation, I have lost all trust in the product. My truck runs great, has 40,000 miles on it but I have no faith after reading all the posts on this great site. 15 years of dreaming of the day I got a diesel turns into a cold sweat everytime I turn the key. I will continue to own and drive it for many years to come, I made a promise to the wife that these things go for ever and I wouldn't be wanting to ever get rid of it if I can have her( The Truck). I just hope that I can afford to keep it on the road.

Ford owners are always soooo touchy. I don't even get into a conversation about diesels with them. Dosen't prove anything. If they were ignorant enough to buy it then they can talk to themselves and I will just ignor them back.

Yes, we bought our trucks to tow and haul. But what are some peoples problem with us wanting some extra go power? The market is there! Yes, smaller cars like mustangs are going to be quicker off the bat. But they weight half the weight if not less in most cases. Add all kinds of weight to make any "fast" sports car the same as any given modern diesel pickup and I guarantee a spanking gets laid down by the truck. It's like telling someone that just bought a mustang or a corvette when they go and buy a supercharger for it that it doesn't make sense because the car is already fast.
