Exclamation Ford on Fire

Pulled this from FlatRateTech.com... (ford help section)....

"Hello, just want to share some info and get some feed back for anyone with a 03 f-250 6L
I bought my truck 40 days ago (aprox) and well last Monday we took the kids to the fire dept for Halloween and on the way there the driver side head lamp was blinking on & off. did not think to much about it, anyway it went out and the thought well bulb is bad.. and later that night my wife took the truck to work (9pm) and I noticed that the head light was on.. anyway the next day ( 6am) my wife was head home and about 200ft from the house her truck caught fire, she pulled into the drive way and sprayed it with water. then called me on the cell... I rush home and seen that the fire was out(so we thought) and start to call ins co, ford dealer, etc when I looked out the window to see the truck up in flames !!! call 911 and went out and put the hose on it(with no luck) and the truck burned to the ground... and it looked like it start behind driver head lamp area. has any one heard of this before ??? I call my dealer and they said all recall have been done on my truck and he said I could have had 2 mile on it and it burned on the street in front of them that it not there problem, I should call the insurance company !@ can you believe that !!"

Is this a common problem with the 03 Fords? My buddy is considering purchasing a used 03 - 04 ford diesel. I don't want to overplay these kind of incidents but I read about them often.

I doubt it's a common thing. Any vehicle can catch fire given the right circumstances. (Yes, even our precious Rams )

sweet release!!! It was just destined to be a lemon but it decided otherwise! Personally I would have gone out and roasted marshmellows on it. and "forgot" to call the fd.

Maybe someone put a headlamp bulb in it improperly?
Anything can catch fire. Miles of wires, batteries, gas, diesel, oil all under a tin hood.

Angry Ford Fire

I had a 94 Eddie Bower Bronco that also caught fire and burned to the tires. furd said not their problem it started behind the the dash on the drivers side.I was a volunteer Fire Fighter level 3 driver operator and EMT at the time. Any way thy did a very good investigation to fined out what and wy and fond it started in the wiring under the dash on driver side. It was a very good Bronco until then, Now I drive Dodge on furd trucks.

Gee, is it any wonder the dealerships are whining about sales and thousands are being laid off from Ford with attitudes like that? HMMMmmmmmmm.....

I remember the "Uni-Bronco" jokes about those. That was quite a while back.

Being at it was insured. and no one was hurt........

It quite possibly could have been one of the best thing to have happened to that truck. I am surprised more of them haven't caught fire "mysteriously" with them 6.0's

As for Ford's response, did you really expect them to admit to anything? Heck they may have had to buyback another super duty.....imagine that

Does anyone have the heart to tell this poor guy that the fire is the best thing that could have happened to his 6.0NO?

Seriously, Ford is getting weary of warranty issues with the 6.0 and it has probably almost run out on his 03 anyway, right? The easiest way out would be to let her burn, write it off and buy something less prone to failure!

There are a number of reported problems with wire harness chaffing on '03 and '04 SD's. Could be related to this. Being it's on the internet, there is a margin of uncertaintiy as to it's documented truth, but it's quite possible.

There is also a good lesson in this - vechile fires are very dangerous and tricky to "put out." Just because you see no flames - [would you use a hose to put out an electrrical fire on a truck] does not mean it's "out." This guy goofed when he didn't call 911 right away, it should always be checked out by a professional before it's deemed "out." If this ever happens to you - call 911 FIRST, then set about trying to put it out yourself. Be safe out there....

ok, sounds like it's not very common (posted several places). Anyway my bud is a die hard ford guy and won't consider anything. He's also not internet savvy so I'm trying to get him as much info as possible. I think if he REALLY needs to buy a used furd with the 6.0 he should at a minumim get an "Oasis" report. That way he can tell how many times the truck has been in the shop and what problems it had/has.

Underwood - I'm right there with ya, I think I still have some marshmallows though!

Thanks all.
