Ford diesel mechanic

Gotta love this one. Talking to one of the diesel mechs here at the Furd dealership where I work and he says the 6.0 is a more powerful engine then the 7.3. I said how do you figure when people towing using that have to go up to a 4.73 rear end just to haul 10K? He (this is the good part) says that the 6.0 is more powerful when the truck is unloaded then the 7.3...

I tried to ask him how it is that the truck is more powerfull but only when unloaded. He got nice and arrogant and said, "Dude, I actually work on diesels!" Great argument... gotta love Furd.

yeah, i've run across some backyard mechanics that think that way too... i do work on diesel engines, but nothing near as small as a pickup truck engine.. heck, the air compressors i work on have larger displacment than these small engines..

Lay off the Fords......every dealer has to have at least one moron under federal law.
The more you have the more federal monies you get to keep em off the street.
If Dodge didn't have the Cummins there wouldn't be a Dodge truck anymore.

Also if Dodges were perfect machines you wouldn't have these...

Technically it was the 2nd gens in 94 that kept dodge around. Sales figures and what not prove that. even the mighty cummins wasnt doing it for dodge, Lot more ford diesels in those years. although you still see the dodges on the road

ding, ding, ding... we have a winner. It was the 2nd gen body style that rescued Dodge, not the Cummins.

I was working there. You want a steady job as a mechanic get a job a ford, they break all the time.

I was just commenting on how powerfull the 6.0s are when NOT loaded, acording to the Ford Diesel Mech.

Sadly, yes. I asked him why most stories I hear about the new 6.0 had to do with going to a 4.73 rear end to pull 10K easily. He said that had nothing to do with engine power, just rear end...

how do you figure the 7.3 is more powerfull than the 6.0. the most power the 7.3 ever made stock was 250hp (auto trans) and 525 ftlb tq. the 6.0 makes 325 hp and 560 ft lb tq (570 ft lb on the 05's and 06's)

The reason the 6.0 gets those lovely numbers is due to too much turbo. The engine just cant handle that. And if it does produce so much more power, why does it have so much more trouble towing?
