Is ford bringing the 7.3 back ??
Although I am not a powerstroke man, I just had a question. I noticed in the paper this morning that they were advertising the new 2005 f350 4x4 dually and said it had a 7.3 liter motor in it the powerstroke diesel. Just wondering if ford was bringing the 7.3 back or if this is just a misprint. I dont care for powerstrokes at all, but I will have to admit the 7.3 motor was far better than the 6.0 from previous owners I have spoke with.

Sounds like a misprint. My dad has a 7.3L with over 350K and still going half as strong as my "little" 5.9L. I attend the Detroit Auto Show annually and while I did not spend much time near the Ford trucks I did not see any sign of the 7.3L making a comeback. Probably some unintelligent sales manager at the dealership that placed the ad.

misprint....i dunno if im wrong but i "think" u can get the 7.3's in the f450 and f550 as an option....they lost alot of ford "loyalists" with the flop of the 6.0 and guess where they came running to? they refer to it as the darkside that would be us

My dad wants an Excursion for a daily driver, but it will be a 2000-2002 7.3L, no 6oh-no liter for him, what a pile of scrap, and he's been a Ford guy for about 30 years. If I win the lottery, I would love to buy a brand new Ford and put a Cummins in it

Yep, misprint. There was an interesting ad in the Amarillo Globe a week ago yesterday.
"02 Dodge Ram 2500, quad cab, 4X4, Duramax...."
Hopefully that one was a misprint also. Or an uninformed dealer.

3Kracker, is that header REALLY that yellow-white hot to the eye??? or is it just because of taking a picture using a single CCD camera?
I have seen pix of homemade turbines and pulse-jets that look like they are ready to melt! But in reality, it was just the peculiarity of some single CCD imager cameras that are overly sensitive to IR, exagerating the apparent color temperatures of red-hot objects.
Still, That is HOT!!
An in-line 6!, but made of aluminum!
Who's the builder of that little beastie??? Navistar? or is that the big "secret"?

are you sure you can still get 450's and 550's w/ the 7.3? I couldnt find them on the ford commercial truck site. I know if they still offered them around here, all the new wreckers we got this year wouldnt have had 6.0's.......
not to say the 7.3 wasnt a good engine, but the numbers put out by it, even in its last year of production would look kinda sad compared to the Cummins 610, Duramax, and even the 6.0
