First Post... NooB ???'s
hey guys,
I have been reading for a few weeks now and have found a truck. I would like your opinions on it and a guide of what to look for Friday (when I go to get it)
2000 Dodge 3500 X-Cab
225k, B.D. Jake Brake, EDGE comp box, K/N Filter, BANKS pyro/boost guage in A-pod, B.D. Pusher Fuel Kit, B.D. Manifold, B/W turnover gooseneck hitch, rear hitch, Prodigy box
rebuilt 6speed manual, 2wd, vynil/manual interior... and really clean.
what is it worth about and what are the key things to look for?
one last ?.... is there a body change from 96 to 2000 in the 3500's.... it seems like it? thanks a lot.

The change you are talking about are from 1998to1998.5,The body style were not changed but the interior did in 1998.5 along with the introduction of the Electroic 24V Cummins(with the VP44 pump),before 1998.5 dodge used the Mechanical 12V Cummins(P7100 pump). After 2002 The "New" body style came out with the quite Common Rail Cummins. Up here that truck would be about $10,000. Ask the owner if he ever replaced the injection pump and if so how long ago. That pump is a weak link with that motor.Maybe check for codes(key on-off-on-off-on)-this might show codes for a weak injection pump.

Thanks for the replies guys. I passed on that truck but bought another one tonight. I just got home with the following
96 Dodge 3500 X-Cab
4wd
auto, loaded with all power
gooseneck/tagalong hitches
rhinolined bed and brand new simulators/caps
best of all..... 84k original miles and clean as a whistle.
it does have some grandpa running boards, tiny wheels/tires and entirely toooo many amber lights but they'll come off Friday for Detail day. pics soon.
what to look for now? what kind of fluids/weights should I use when I service it? Rotella, etc...? thanks

thanks for the advice guys, this thing has a ton of torque but it's a dog off the line??? It took FOREVER to get the running boards off. here are the pics as promised.... I apologize for it being dirty but it's gonna snow tomorrow so there is no use in washing/waxing yet.

Nice looking truck. I laughed when you mentioned the grandpa running boards and too many amber lights. I can picture exactly what that looked like. I've seen a few outfitted like that up here. Not my style either.

thanks guys.... it is pretty clean to be a 96. depending on the weather tomorrow I'm planning to mount my black low-pro toolbox, paint the bedliner tailgate black (looks bad in my opinion), and clean it up/polish the chrome etc...
the plan is to black it all out except the front grille and then put some big wheels on it with a leveling kit... can't decide on 19.5 or 22.5 or just big dodge pattern wheels? then on to the go fast parts and auto tranny beefing.
I might not post a lot but I'll be doing my homework/searching for a while and then I'll ask ?'s thanks again
