General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

I personally thing the Duramax is quite attractive...just not as tough built as I'd like!

x1. The GMs are the "gentlemen's horse taxi" for running around town.

My Dodge is more akin to a duece-and-a-half.

Ford's seem to be plenty tough-- but toughness doesn't matter much in a truck that won't run

Don't bother picking a fight with this guy, he won't be stopped by inconvenient things like facts...

Its all smack. last year I went down into Mexico with a bunch of friends. the best mpgs were all from the CTD 10 to 12 the 7.3 psd got 9-10 the 6.0 got 8-9 mpgs and the Dmax got 8-10 depending on the area and grades .I had the heavyest load of all just over 23k gcvw and never got less then 10 with my 2001 CTD HO. we also had a chevy 6.5td that was getting 9-10 but it had the 2nd to the lightest load. With that many trucks you cant lie at the pump! when you all fuel at the same time and go the same miles.
we ran into a guy with a Dmax and good size 5er (38')and he said 6mpg was average for his set up he was a full time RVer said he loved the truck and hadnt had but 1 injector changed in just over 100k on the rig.

wish we would of had a 3rd gen in the group to compair mpg with.

There may be some truth to higher mileage. But from what I have been reading it is from guys getting fully re-written ECM's for total mileage gains.. I have read mileage over 21 MPGUS with the Allison plus a 50 HP bump. But this reflash is not for the faint of heart with warranty..
