exaust wrap on a 6.0

exaust wrap on a 6.0

i was looking under a 6.0 last weekent and noticed the exaust is wrapped from manifold back about 6 foot close to the muffler<br><br>what would be the reason for this maybe stop drone, or keep heat from entering cab or cut back on noise ???

But if the motor doesn't run due to internal problems then does it really matter? ;D<br><br>I ran thermotec wrap on the Hooker headers on my 78 W200 for a while. The headers lasted about a year before the metal crystallized? and disappeared at the hottest spot on the tubes (just outboard of the flange). The wrap was still good but the tube was gone Glad I noticed the exhaust leak went from slight to almost open header level before it got a chance to light off anything under the hood. The thicker downpipes might take the heat better but the thin header tube material did not like it at all.<br><br>I have since heard that it is not advisable to run wrap on street driven daily drivers because the moisture and the heat does in the header tubes. Only time will tell on the 6.0......
