Engine wash??

I've had my 03 CTD for about 3 months now and have put 9K on her. With this miserable winter we've been having you can imagine what it looks like under the hood. The engine is covered with tons of salt and road grime and I want to wash it off. Can I use a pressure washer on my CTD engine?? Any warnings or advice will be great.
Thanks

Re:Engine wash??

I wash my Cummins. I do not wash the motor when it is hot. My WIF light will be on for a couple of days after a good washing.
John

Re:Engine wash??

I don't use a pressure washer, too much chance of getting water in all those electrical connections.
I spray the cool engine down with Simple Green, wait about 10 minutes and rinse it off with the garden hose. Trying to avoid spraying directly into any connectors.

Re:Engine wash??

I wash my motor thingy all the time. I just don't blast real high pressure around the electrical stuff. You figure that engine is getting blasted pretty good driving down the road 60 mph in a rain storm anyway.

Re:Engine wash??

I just tape seran wrap or a cut up plastic bag over all of my electrical connections and then use a high pressure sprayer. Baked on Texas clay doesn't like to come off that easily.

I thought it took me an awful long time to wash that extra long truck. (thought I was getting older and couldn't see as well. wait, I am getting older and can't see as well) Now I remember. What was I talking about? Hey, where'd everyone go? Hello????

Re:Engine wash??

You guys might want to watch using Simple Green on any plastic parts. It has a tendancy to discolor them.

Oh! I get it. ;D

I wash mine with Simple Green as well, I let the engine cool down to where I can touch the radiator hose and then spray it with Simple Green. Let it cool down completely and then hose off the grease and grime. Make sure you cover the BHAF with a plastic bag or something, I learned that one the hard way. (Duh) :-[

DB

Scared the crap out of of us, the motor started to rev up and try to suck his hand in the turbo. That's when I desided this little 5.9 need some serious air if you want it to run good.

DB
