As you can see I am working the tranny over myself. It started as a brand new takeout 48RE with a cracked rear tailshaft housing (stole it for $200). It's getting a Goerends triple disk convertor, ATS standalone control valve body, billet input shaft, upgraded solid red band, 4.2 lever, HD strut, other little parts that needed upgraded (accumlator pistons) springs, etc.

Dave Goerend and Dusty at HTS have both been a big help in this area.

2000 Limited 4wd, unfortunately it only has a Dana 50 front axle instead of the Dana 60 which the 03 and later got. Might have to swap it someday...

I'm planning to put some 33" Nitto terra grapplers and some different wheels eventually. It's already pretty tough for the little one to get in though.

Nope, V10 gas hog. 11 mpg all the time. Back when I was shopping for an excursion the difference in price between a V10 and a 7.3 diesel was almost 10k.

Got a full exhaust attached to the engine (with left over pieces of 4" laying around) so the garage doesn't fill with exhaust. I also got an A/C compressor installed so I could put the belt on. I was then able to run it a couple times bringing it up to operating temp.

Got the new rear overdrive housing installed, Dave Goerends even painted it black so now the rest of my tranny looks bad... Here's a shot of the internals that came out of the old housing...

Putting the ATS valvebody back in with my helper for the afternoon...

Got the tranny completed last night. New tailhousing put on, input shaft end play set correctly, pan back on. The shift position indicator thingy? had to be adjusted slightly to let the tranny shift thru all the gears. It's ready to go now... Waiting on some oil cooling lines, the oil cooler, and my new *****'s Whistler intake system.

Anyone know how much fuel pressure a 3rd gen engine likes to see???? I have 18 to 19 psi with the engine running, not sure if I should adjust that up or down...

Got my 2001 truck dyno'd this weekend. Didn't have time for tuning and didn't spray the water/meth. Ran on injectors alone and put down 462 hp 1001 ftlbs. With the one combination of boxes we had time to try it put down 593 hp 1340 ftlbs. I figure with some tweaks on the settings and spraying water/meth I would have been close to 650 hp. Always next time I guess...

Here's the video from the 593 hp run... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIkK60tT_JA

Last night I was able to do the relentless diesel DIY stage I mods to the cp3 for the excursion engine. Should start on it this weekend (the swap).

*****'s whistler intake parts all showed up, I'll get some pics of it.

More to come...
