Electric blowers

Has anyone tried pushing air into thier motor with a blower befor the turbo to help with spool up? I left my intake tube loose when I was working on my truck and noticed a definit increase of low end power.

are you talking about the small electric fans, I highly doubt that they would supply enough air for the turbo....would be more of a hinderence(sp?)

If you could put a higher PSI in front of the turbo, then yes, you would have faster spool up and more power. However with the stock turbo making up to 35psi, you'd be hard pressed to find something that would keep at least or more than 35psi in front of the turbo (also once your boost reaches 35, and the supply is 35, your now eqiul) As long as your making that much boost, not much will give you more power.

What you are refering too is also why people put twins on. The one turbo supplys more air to the second one, and it compresses it more. Same idea.

The turbo blows 35 PSI, but how many CFM? I'll make an educated guess as somewhere between "a crapload" and "a monster crapload".

I don't think that you could use a belt driven supercharger to supply enough air to the turbo; I would highly, highly doubt that you could do it electrically. However, having a reverse-wastegated supercharger right before the turbo inlet might be handy for instant take offs. Or maybe if you had somekind of electric fan that kept the turbo blades spinning at all times or something like that?

I don't know, but somebody's probably already tried it!

i've seen a 4000hp detroit with multiple superchargers and turbochargers.

Not sure i would bother setting up an inverter and plug in the old weedwacker power boost

economy not power?

I'm more interested in economy not power. What I noticed is a lot more power on the lower end with my intake loose. If you can pull at a lot lower rpm with the added power. Will it hurt pulling at 1200 the motor or trans? Yes electric blowers that I've found only push about 250 cfm so I didn't think that would do for wot.

From the looks of it that is a Honda, problably stock (naturally asperated). That leaf blower problably puts out more air than that motor can take in, or put out, which is problably why it helped boost the HP on that motor.

Now that I think about it, I have to go put our leaf blower on my lawn mower and see how it'll do..... Hey even if it dosn't get more power, it'll blow the leave's outa the way.

And why where you digging around on a honda site???

The detroit with the 2 blowers and 4 turbo's is a 2 stroke. The blowers actually are not for performance, they are to scavange the spent gasses after combustion. The only real way is to run twin turbo's, = 0 lag. I do have 2 1200 hp cummins 16 cyl turbo's for sale. lol takes around 400-600 to spool them up.

I say use a gas engine powered leaf blower for the truck turbo and then use a hair dryer for the leaf blower - sequential blowers, it's the latest craze amongst the coffee can muffler import racers.



BTW: Claim of "sequential blowers craze" is completely unfounded.

Has anyone run their truck with the filter hose disconected? I thought someone said they did when pulling or raceing. Is it to hard on the motor or tranny to run it at 1200 rpm.

careful running with the filter hose disconnected.... can pick up some nasty stuff into the turbo.....

1200rpm is a little low to be running at all the time..... would be terribly slow on the highway too..... I have found 1500-1900 a good efficient range...

When I worked as a diesel mechanic in the 70's I worked on a lot of turbocharged engines, if we were running the engine the turbo could never be left open at the inlet side. They told us that the turbo has to have some restriction like the filter or it would over speed and disintegrate.
Most of the 903 Cummins had twin turbos.
Also I saw an open turbo ingest a shop rag.

Will it hurt the tranny 1200rpm in 5th at 35mph for town driving? If you had no restrictions on a turbo like was mentioned wouldn't the exaust flow limit it some what? I'm not looking for top end or wot. Yes leaving the intake off is not a good idea. That's why I was wondering about some way to suck the air through the filter before the turbo to help with spool up as well as torque on the low end say up to 1800rpm. I'm looking for economy not 500 hp not that some version of this might not help. Like two big filters with 500cfm blowers on each? Can you get to much air in a diesel and reduce economy?
