They assume that only a few people pay attention to the water temp gauge, why would they put something on that might risk being sucked through the turbo (todays pyros don't fail like that, that I've seen) when they can just design the truck to stay in operating temps under normal conditions? It would be a good idea for them to do it, but I guess they don't see the need. (Or they see someone trying to spike the pyro like they do the rpm and speedometer.
More fuel = more boost, more boost = lower temps. I didn't really believe it until I was able to run in the 30s and 40s psi range and had to stay at it in 6th to hit just over 1,000*. Timing and duration can also lower temps, since the timing on the 600s are designed to produce heat to keep the cat warm and toasty, a timing change can change the temps.(This for all diesels but the 600s are a good example) The drugs (water/meth, propane, and even nitrous) can keep the EGTs when not used in high doses (nitrous mainly under that qualification)

BTW, I thought the Cummins already came with forged pistons??? The rods are forged right?
