My son who is a diesel mechanic on tug boats up in Kittery Maine ran into a guy with a 2001 Chevy tow truck with the LB7 engine. He claims he can't get it to run right and it's been at a Chevy dealer many times. He gave the challenge to my son.The only thing I know is that it gets terrible fuel mileage. Can anybody tell me what the short comings are and where he should begin. Thnx Steve

Unless you have a good dealer that can do the proper testing, they will miss the injector problem until it starts filling the crankcase with diesel. They have to be able to get into the ECM and measure Balance Rates for the injectors and they have to fall into a certain % of the recommended injection pulse width. To me it sounds like the injectors are starting to fail, might be a couple, but good news is that they are warrantied for 200,000 miles!!!
