Dump body vs. rack body
I realize there are obvious differences. Question is...for those of you running rack bodies. Can you load these up in a similar fashion to a regular dump bed? Based on a one ton chassis can you load it up with a yard of stone and not worry about the sides blowing out? (sides do look sturdy enough just want to know for sure).
thanks

JJ I have seen guys do a lot worse than a yar of stone to their racks. The new (around here) grain bodies have heavier sides than a rack. The bigger concerns would be the tires, and if you were loading boulders into it. Daily landscape chores around here are now accomplished more by rack bodied trucks than mason dumps.

just a yard of stone isn't much of a load imo. Different beds haul different stuff depending on how its made. I have a 96FSuperduty 7.3 w/12'pto dump. Its got heavy **** metal sides about 2.5'tall that are made to be taken off witha skidsteere. I couldn't haul the same type loads with wooden sides. I think you will be way over the trucks gvw before you worry about busting out sides on many beds. Check the gvw of the truck and you might be surprized at the gvw. My super duty has 15kgvw. The same year F350 had a 12k rating I hear. A 350 with a metal dump could weigh 9500 fairly easy unloaded that gives you a 2500payload maybe 2yards of rock. If I was doing anykind of landscape work I would get the dump. 55% of the time I just work mulch out of the back into a wheelbarrow but the rest of the time it is wonderful to dump at the jobsite and go get some more materials.

Ive been a landscaper for 22 years now and had them both, Only reason to buy a rack body is if u cant afford a dump body. Otherwise idk about the weight of steel sides, i laugh at the cheapos who r scraping leaves for an hour, and they give me the i wish i had one of those looks. u buy a rack u r stuck with it and it has lower resale....pto dumps r the way to go.
