General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Sorry to take so long, been running almost steady since the end of August. At times I cheat on things like radios. In 1994 I had a vehicle with no real room for a radio. I had an Alinco HT that came with a cover for operating with no battery. I set up a cable that had a miniture coax and 12v feed and hooked to a "kill the stereo" box on the other end which is mounted to the back of an amplified speaker. Of course I purchased another Alinco after using the one for the car.

I have that set up in the truck and it only uses a mike clip for mounting, is dual band, and receives about anything you want to hear from vhf up. I also used this for fire calls on the police band for years. Slightly illegal but ok when the Sheriff does not mind, he holds the responsibility for the license. The 2 meter antenna always worked well on the vhf 150 to 160 band. Actually it is a pretty neat deal, all you have is a microphone sized deal that scans, dual band, and you can plug in memory and talk on from about 140 to 160 on the vhf band. Receives 800 complete (pre-ban) also receives aircraft band.

What I have not installed yet is the Icom receiver/scanner that receives from the bottom to 1.3 gig. One day I might go hf again in the truck, but my rigs are all large which fit in the big truck ok but where to put one in the Ram? I used to enjoy listening to short wave broadcasts, they are a real education on what the rest of the world has to say about our news items and actually very educational.

So no big deal, a microphone clip is the mounting

Exactly. What you've been through this past year is more than enough to make most people give up, but you keep movin' onward and upward. And you even have time to explain some of the quirks of hotshottin' to us young-uns But if you get stacks you're going to get them Ferds all full of soot when you deliver them
