Drove a 6.0 powerstroke today

Now that's a real sharp move, although in light of what they started with it might be smart. I've driven at least 4 Ford diesel over the years. 3 were '99 and newer and the 4th was one of the original 6.9's. The 6.9 was OK but not a lot of power while the others I didn't like at all. No power, at least on the bottom end, didn't like the way they drove and sat and I have no idea why so many think the interior is so great. Didn't care for the interior at all and didn't feel it was anywhere near as comfortable as my Dodge. Just MHO.

Believe me I never said I'm a powerstroke lover but Ford truck and chassis are pretty great. I love my truck, especially since I put the F450 super60 and D110 under it. I haven't been hauling this 12v around with me for the past 4 years. in a dodge and a chevy for my health. been waiting to find the perfect cummins holder. Now I'm on the fast track to building it.

Im a ford fan, the OP mocked the 5.4L, but my 98 f150 had 207K on it and never needed a thing, best rig Ive ever owned... At work we have a 99 F150 with 214K and its showing no signs of slowing down either... Anyway I traded the '98 in a year ago for a duramax, first and last GM rig Ill ever buy, 5mo later it blew the head gaskets, couldnt afford to have a dealer change them (over $4500) so I did them myself. Month later it needed wheel bearings, so after having it 10mo I sold it.
Bought a cummins a couple days ago, so far love it, its noisy, but smooth, turns sharp, hope it lasts!

Engines are subjective- you will never cease to find someone who dislikes it. There are just as many people out there bashing CTD's as there are singing their virtues. I take it with a grain of salt. I had one, worked it hard, and I was very satisfied.
Our church has a 15 passenger Chevy van with the 6.0, which I have driven quite a bit. It pulls well, but the 5.4 had more low end torque. Otherwise, they both pull the same. So, in my experience, they are on par with each other. It can't be so bad, if it is comparable with its competitor.

Torque is what they do have. I had a 99 4x4 rclb with 5.4. It was smooth and had more torque than the vortec 350s of the time. It averaged 15.5mpg. It would do 17mpg on the highway but I was only 21 when I had it. I saw it 4 years after I sold it and the lady said it had been flawless. It certainly has more torque my 2wd 5.3 suburban. Now after 3000 rpms the 5.3 will eat it for lunch and spit out the nubbins

70% of Ford trucks sold in the last 30 years are still on the road today.
The other 30% actually made it home!!!!
That buddy's 6.0 is close to what it should have been with the extra $10,000 he's probably already got in it.
You can have the 6.0.

Thats interesting. My girlfriends mom has an expedition with the 5.4 and gets 12 mpg tops. I towed a ten foot trailer full of furnature with it and I could barelly hold 65 mph. We have a light duty self loading wrecker at work that weighs around 7500 pounds with the 5.4 and is an absolute dog unloaded and gets 9 mpg. One of my friends used to have an F150 with the 5.4 and got 13 mpg tops. It wasn't quick either. And finally another friend has an F350 with the 5.4 and gets 11mpg tops. It pulls ok and its not too sluggish though. I think it has to do with the gearing. Thats 4 different applications and 4 not so happy owners.

As far as my Expedition, I dont tow anything with it(thats what the diesel is for). And you are right about the MPG...12-13 tops. Other than that, its a great truck.
