Dodge 1500 Diesel

I have heard that Dodge is putting a specially made V8 Cummins in the dodge 1500. Its suppose to have 350 Hp and 550 Ft. lbs. Has anyone else heard anything on this? Sounds like it be pretty cool (if you like half tons).

LOL !!! thats funny,

i doubt it

the sales with the dodge hemi powered trucks is the biggest thing since sliced bread for dodge sales. the trucks without the hemi are just sitting on the lots and not selling :/

and having a v8 cummins designed and set up for production for 1500's would probably just hurt all the other sales across the board...

wouldnt make sense at all

True. 5.6 V8. Read about it in the new TDR mag which just came yesterday. Still a year or two away from production.

This may just be the start of that neo- Diesel- muscle-car era I've been lamenting about for years. If they put it in the Charger or 300C, I'll wager they'll catalyze the entire shibang.

Is it made by Cummins, or some oversea's Mercedes venture.

Nostalga aside, the reason the dealers have so many Hemis on the lots is they suck,.....fuel that is.
A Dodge 1/2 ton with a diesel that gets comprable torque numbers and twice the fuel milage would sell like ice cream in Hades.

hmm?

the hemi's are all thats driven around the area by me, the lots just bring them in and sell them just like that....

the crazyness extends right into the 3500's.... dually.. ive seen 5 hemi powered DUALLY 3500's now.... is that a waste or what!!!

THe new (hemi) is just marketing and pfft its stupid but oh well, nothing like when the original hemi came out, 426 that is. That was a nice engine, I doubt this new hemi will do jack, but by me its still selling big time, and noone wants anything but the hemi.

Im sorta surprised that they are coming out with a diesel for the 1500's though, Not saying its a bad thing, im happy if its true. Ill go buy a 1500 when that happens for a drive around animal

Its amazing that Ford and Dodge are just seeing the benifit of running a diesel in a 1/2 ton truck. My dad has a 84 chevy with the 6.2 in a half ton 4x4. Granted the 6.2 was not a major puller but it has been reliable for him over the last 20 years hes had it and it gets around 20 mpg. He does not pull much with it but wanted a diesel for the long term reliability of them. He does pull with it but never at any speed or any distance. His pulling is always within a 20 mile radius of home and usaly on gravel roads at under 40 mph. He pulls a flatbead trailer with his skidloader on it and a flat rack behind that full of wood. He dont need a big fancy 3/4 ton to do his work but wanted the diesel for the little towing he does. I would have seriously looked at getting a 1/2 ton had they been available with a diesel when I bought this last truck.

"wouldn't make sense at all"...

What would make you say that? How about a pickup truck that averaged over 20 mpg? How about a half-ton, accessable to more people, that could last over 200k miles? How about profit margin? If they can build it and make a profit selling it, they should do it.

I have heard of several 2wd half-ton owners that average 10-13 mpg. Now that "wouldn't make sense at all."

The last truck I owned before my 2000 -2500-ctd was in fact a 2-wd 1500 chevy silverado ex cab short bed 6.5 tubo diesel. Heck of a truck had 146000 miles on it changed fuel control moduel 1 time then injecter pump . All at about 100000 miles now it looks as if the ctd will be right in line with it. 83000 already 1 lift pump and it has started smoking and missing bad at start up. Oh yes I pulled the same 5th wheel camper with it. If it had 410 gears like my dodge I would probibly stil own it.

the point i was trying to make is that dodges main seller right now is the hemi engine (or so im lead to believe from going past the lots by me with every car/truck with a gas engine with a hemi in it now!

It wouldnt make sense at all to cut into your own profits with the hemi to release a diesel thats more powerful/economical into the trucks..

I wasnt saying it wouldnt make sense at all meaning it would be a bad idea to do it for all of us!

meh just ignore my first post.

Err, I think it would be wise to produce whatever sells the most, period. If a V-8 Diesel would outsell the Hemi, then wouldn't they want to start pumping those out instead of the Hemi? It would probably attract even more people away from F-150's and 1500's... Stupid piece of crude F-150's...

i agree,

but im sure theres always going to be the gasser aspect of vehicles,

im pretty sure i heard they are releasing a larger HEMI in the next 2 years for more power...

which i mean hopefully the new hemi (laugh) new diesel for 1500's (yay)
and the new MEGA CAB (in loud frightening voice) will just cut ford down to size.

im all for dodge doing it, but im used to seeing something thats done right with 1 product so you dont need to produce 3 or 5 different versions of it

meh i dont tihnk im making any sense at all now, sooo confused
