I was in alaska for two weeks over the summer and we stopped to eat along the way back from denali and we were going through some of the passes where they get TONS! of snow and big rigs tow BIG LOADS or try to in the winter. A regular trucker there said that the only difference from driving in the summer to winter is during winter you just have to know when to let go of the steering wheel and scream like a 12 year old boy again roflmao. This guy was about 6'6" and maybe 270 lbs. I guess whats what you call ***** of steel

 

You ain't kidding. I live in an area with 5 colleges that are within a 20 a minute drive. Lots of idiots in the more populated mall-type areas. That's why I live in the out skirts a wee bit.

Today was a perfect example, we have a monster snow blower 8 foot wide dual rotors guess it would handle snow around 5 foot deep. We were out early around 4:30 or so and some guy drives around my dump truck the wrong way and nearly into the mouth of that blower. Not sure how you could miss all the work lights and the amber strobes on the blower and the 544H John Deer loader that pushes it.
Course now that I think about it, the blower would have survived it with just a little paint scratched off lol

 

Up here it's 8 months of winter then 3 months of "tough sledding" Give me the beach anytime.

 

Anyone notice all the smart cars have disappeared when the snow arrived.

 

I drive a 2wd dually as well, just throw 15 or 20 bags of range cubes in the back and it does fine.

 

HAHA yes i have noticed that here aswell. IMO a car that cant go in the snow isnt worth paying for or owning. just my .02 cents

 

a few weeks ago i was headed to work on a monday morning from denver to fort collins about a 70 mile 1.5 hour trip usually fromthe GF's to work this day it had snowed abou 4 inches over night and was snowing in town... it took 5 hours to get to work... 3.5 to get to the north side of denver fron east denver... these tards out here cant drive to save their lives. same thing happens in the mountains when we go to ski if it shows it is an automatic 5 hour drive from the ski resorts to denver
l am from MN and dont mind the driving but i hate the idiots who cant handle the snow go back to california hippies

 

I have a buddy that works for one of the dealers, he tells me they have switched to gas engines in them as the diesel couldn't generate enough heat in the winter. That's why they have disappeared, they are ALL froze up

 

I wouldn't know, we don't get snow or ice here in Montana. Guess I can't vote.

 

I love drivin in the snow for the fun, and I love driving in the ice for the challenge. I was out in an 07 Pete 379 with a tanker one night in an ice storm (only had a CDL for prolly 10 months) Dunno how I ever made it, so slick the crest of the road was enopugh to get me slippin.

And as for other drivers, yeah people who don't know howto handle the snow should stay inside. I bought a 4wd to be able to handle the snow, stay outta my way. It's actually worse driving too slow in snow than too fast. I'll be moving to Virginia here in about 6 months, next winter will be a real change for me

 

if i am on a trip i hate it. most folks are in a hurry around here and ram into you . went to one of my good friends funeral year ago , he was just driving along when someone hit ice came into his lane and killed him. the bad drive walked away. worry about my family with me , when i was 35 or less bring it on. we used to hit the mainline logging roads when we would get a foot of snow in the hills.

 

My work is 25 miles of highway away, and I love to get up in the morning and find a big new dump of snow on the ground. It adds some excitement to the monotony. There's a big hill I drive by on my way out of town and I know it will be an exciting drive when the city buses are sliding down it backwards.

Funny thing, on the last slippery day, I passed 5 vehicles in the ditch. Four of them were 4X4s. Go figure.
