General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Do I have anything to be concerned about?

little background info.....the truck has been setting for a little over a month now, transmission is being worked on. the batteries are disconnected and the truck hasnt run at all since I tore the transmission up.

I will hopefully be putting the trans back in this weekend or early next week. do I have anything to be worried about when I get her ready to fire up again?

Maybe just fuel...You might want to treat the fuel to avoid gelling and algae.

I wouldn't think so. I usually fill up about once a month. Diesel doesn't go bad as fast as gasoline. Give the batteries a little charge, and go for it.

I'd think you have nothing at all to worry about, except maybe some little rodent nesting some where in the engine bay......

Gelling in Texas in March.... .

If parked with a full tank...no algae problems either. (takes water before Algae can grow).
If not parked with full tank.... anything is possible in terms of hard starting.

It snowed here in March. March 7th to be exact. And two days later I mowed the grass with shorts on.

OK, it snows and you mow the grass with your shorts on. So, in normal weather you mow with them off? Isn't that dangerous? Hope you don't use a weed whacker!

My truck sits for a month at a time without being run. Every other Month. I haven't had a problem with it in over 5 years of doing that.

I don't think a month is going to hurt anything. Maybe bump the starter and let the lift pump run through a cycle or 2.

A month should not hurt anything. It is a good idea to try to leave it with a full fuel tank when you leave it parked for this long but if you didn't this time, don't sweat it. Most marine engines don't get run 8 months a year and they are just started normally in the spring.

Dont forget...

Just make sure to grease those muffler bearings...as I recall, those units have 2 sets of bearings on each end of the muffler...

That'll cure any hard start symptoms you will ever encounter...

Sorry, I couldn't resist...been a long day!

Not recommending this procedure but just relating my personal experience - My truck sat for 10-12 months w/o being cranked because of a bad transmission. Once the transmission was replaced, I replaced the battery (it hadn't been disconnected), changed the engine oil, checked the fluids, and fired it up. It cranked for about 20 seconds, started and ran rough for less than a minute and then idled like normal. Changed the fuel filter the next day to clean out any algae that might have grown and it's been running fine ever since.

IMO, a month should be no problem. Matter of fact, I'm not sure if I've even started mine in the last month. Guess I ought to do that today. Thanks for the reminder.
