Diesel tests?

why is is it that in the majority of diesel stories, buildups, and the like the truck is equipped with an auto tranny? I know alot of people drive auto's, but I'd like to see more manual tranny projects and comparisons. A Big 3 Diesel comparo. with 6spds! And dare I say it A lever to engage 4WD! I don't think I've seen a ford or Chevy with a pair of sticks Since I joined the Navy nearly 4 years ago. Sheesh I sound Old!

I have an auto tranny so I can't really speak to the first part of your message. I sure do agree with you on the second part though. I can't stand the flip the switch type of 4WD mechanism. I'm not sure Ford or Chevy even offer the manual 4WD transfer case anymore. I could be wrong, but I can't remember seeing one.

I had a 2003 2500HD chevy that had a manual shifter lever for the Tcase. It was a gasser though.

As far as I know, Ford offers a manual transfer case, they just don't advertise it, and good luck finding one on the lot (I've got a buddy who's a Ferd nut).

Who else would like to see more articles related to Manual Trannies? I surely can't be alone in this. Dodge prolly sells more sticks than Ford and GM combined!

i would sure like to see more manual trans in pickup truck magazine articles... and for sure dodge sells more manuals behind their diesels than ford or gm do [since dodge seems to have such a bad rep for automatic transmissions...]

My 2004.5 SLT 4x4 had the manual 4x4 stick rather than the electric one. Like it much better and one less thing to fail because it is electronic.

I would! And I agree about Dodge selling more sticks.

Actually GM does offer a six speed manual behind the D-max, its usually special order or work truck edition.

My brother in laws Power Joke has the manual engager, he said once you get into the loaded models it's tough to get one without the electronic shift.
Incidentally, his wife drove to the beach and half way back with her Expedition in 4X4 high (IMO, because of that fancy switch).
