diesel swap for 98 v10
The engine in my truck is very reliable but the body is literally falling off the truck. I found a 98 v10 truck and wanted to know how easy it would be to swap in my engine.
The v10 and the cummins used the same tranny so the bolt pattern should bolt right up. What about the T.C. did dodge use the same one for v10 and diesel. I would think the hardest part would be making all the guages work right. Can I use the stock fuel lines from the tank or are they diesel specific? The fuel sending unit in the tank would probably have to go though right? Or would it be able to flow diesel and give my lift pump a break? I have all the tools necessary to do this and would appreciate any advice you guys have on this.

You will have to swap in a diesel TC and valve body, the V10 converter is ALOT higher stall ( if it would even bolt to the cummins flex plate) and the valve body has different goveroner springs , the cummins would never rev high enough to make it shift.
Aside from that , the 98 will have an RE trans, not sure how to make a 1st gen engine work with an RE trans... the computer would have NO idea what he engine is doing, you would be WAY farther ahead to swap in your engine AND trans... the T case would have to be adapted , as your 1st gen has the front side output on the passenger side.
As far as gauges, I am not sure how to make those work either , they are all pcm controlled... I would say a custom dash with aftermarket gauges would be the ticket.

remember- you can't buy a new diesel car in our state. god knows what you have to go through to retitle a vehicle. i am sure ny has made it has hard as possible! call dmv in albany and see what they say.

I guess the only thing to worry about will be the registration isssues. I've decided that the best thing to do with the tranny will be to just keep mine. It works fine I just thought that it would be nice to have an updated unit. I couldn't believe the price for the controller from ATS, those guys are insane.

sigh.....thou are not worthy....cummins is 359 ci.....5.9L....the v10 was 8L...which was something like 488CI if i recall

Too true, Mr. T... my V-10 is 488 cubic inches (8.0 L).
The stock converter stalls at 2400 rpm, which is kind of silly considering that the gasser makes over 400 ft-lbs of torque at 1K rpm in stock form.

I believe Chris is correct on this one.
Also, If you have any friends in a midwestern state that is more lenient on titles and emissions, you could sell them the vehicle, let them retitle it, then sell it back to you. It shouldn't be a very difficult process that way.
