Diesel shop around Raleigh, NC?

As my sig states, I'm picking up my new-to-me CTD on 7/30... and driving that puppy back.

Once home, I plan on making a list of items that need attention.. one of the first ones is to set the timing... The KDP is getting done by the PO before he sells it.. (he's gotta do a crank seal, and that was part of the deal)

Or, I've hosted more than a few "wrench-a-thon"'s at my house before with my 4x4 buddies, I'd be glad to host it, if someone has the tools, and wants to snicker and laugh while I learn... along with people putting on whatever other mods they wanna do...

From the searches, 16* should be about right, yeah? Plans right now are just exhaust, scotty, 3k GSK, and a #10. In the not-so-distant future, a bigger turbo and 370's are in the cards...

It seems Cummins are more popuar than PS down there, many more for sale than most other areas. Good luck and have a safe trip back. Does the truck have an aux tank? may want to fill it up with some of that cheap Texan diesel

It doesn't have one...yet. I'm debating about installing one. Once it gets back, it's gonna live on Biodiesel from the BP station..

I don't know of any brick and mortar diesel shops in this area. Everything I've bought in the past has been mail order because of the lack of performance shops around here. The ones that do exist don't have any real knowledge of the CTD specifically, and to be honest, their knowledge of diesels in general has been lacking. They can sell you a 8" exhaust for a Honda Civic, but when it comes to real vehicles, well, I would go somewhere else.

The closest Cummins shop is in Greensboro by the way if anyone around here is curious. I have lots of experience with them since we had some Onan generators at my old place of work. They're very good.

The one in Garner? Last time I was there, a couple weeks ago it was running $1.749. A station in Cary just started carrying b20, not sure what they get a gallon. I'm looking for a bio station that I can pay at the pump, to save 5% with my aaa visa.
I have been looking at aux tanks, but I hate to lose the bed space.

Oh yeah, there is one in Garner of Hwy 70. Is that the one you're thinking of? I've been in there before. I don't know if they sell performance stuff, but I did get some oil from there once.

oh yeah, the Cummins place right on 40in g-boro... Wish it wasn't gonna be a Sunday afternoon when I pass through... Oh well, I'm SURE I'll be going up there sometime in the near future... Are they open Saturdays, perhaps?

Rob..the place I'm thinking of is the the BP in Cary, and all the gas pumps are pay-at-the-pump, so I'd imagine their fuel one is also. (All the dealers fill there, so I'd bet it is)

I know of one or 2 decent performance shops in the area, but I'd bet $20 they don't know that diesels get timed... let alone how to do it, like Jack said.

I don't really use the bed all that much, but I had tossed around the idea of a toolbox back there, and a tank like I had in mind + a toolbox would negate the possibility of ever using a gooseneck. I dunno.. I can't swing it right now anyway, and that money is better spent on stuff like a DSS & BOMB's!!

The Cummins place is open on Saturdays, but I don't know to what extent. I'm thinking you can get anything done on Saturdays as with any other days because they were going to do Road Relay 4 for me on a Saturday before I traded my 2nd Gen.

I guess I'll be going to the bio pump in Cary next time through. That's cool though, my brother lives in Cary.

You're on Pirate and have a toyota or something you wheel, right? WARNING!!! BOMBING a diesel makes you not care as much about wheeling. I'm about to sell my TJ that I spent 3 years and $$,$$$ building. I just bought the truck to haul the Jeep...

Rob... yeah, that's me.. I'm also the other admin of NC4x4.com

Fortunately, I'm also one of the "R"'s in RnRFab.com, so I have a good reason to stay into 4-wheelin... I like building stuff too. I have plans to fab my own trac bar bracket, and make my own trac bar. Shouldn't be too bad. Maybe we'll expand RnrFab into the realm of diesel performance, since my partner is getting a '05 Ford.

My rocktoy is a '73-ish LandCruiser, and believe me... it WON'T be sold.

I may also be in the market for a car hauler trailer in the fall, if / when you sell the TJ..

By the way, I stopped off at the Cummins shop in Greensboro.. Their hours are:

Monday - Friday: 7:30am - Midnight
Saturday: 7:30am - 3:30 (or 3?) PM

I didn't write down the phone number for after hours emergency parts & service.
