Why do you get hit for duty on parts from the US? If it is made in north america there should not be any duty, correct?

if it's coming across the border, you get nailed with duty... sometimes i don't get it, sometimes i do... depends on the declared value and how it is packaged [big company stickers on it or plain packaging???]

What about buying guages on this side of the border? I'm preferably looking for some ISSPROs but I'm not overly sure where I'm to look. Just check into the same diesel stores already posted?

If it's made in the US there is no duty or excise tax, only GST. Lot's of stuff like Isspro gauges etc. are made in places like India, these you must pay duty on.

^^^I thought that it didn't matter where it was from? If it was coming across the border, regardless of where it was made, there's still duty... ?

Shipping, GST and BROKERAGE!! From my experience, if you pay the freight company to do the brokerage for you, it can get a little rediculous......For some of the smaller things like gauges, fueling boxes etc. have the vendor ship regular mail and mark the box "used auto parts" No brokerage and no GST - it should just breeze through customs.....not all vendors are willing to play along but from my experience, many are. FWIW, I have been able to buy all my parts from CDN vendors and have not had to deal with inflated shipping and brokerage charges. There are several really good mail order vendors/manufacturers on CDN soil that should be able to provide you with what ever you need for your CTD at fair prices if you shop around.

piers sells isspro. he is out in BC... so you'll get gst to pay if you are out of bc, and both taxes if you are in bc... i got my autometer gauges from nadp, and i am looking for a canadian supplier of the spa gauges that is cheaper than nadp [$500cdn a piece my butt]
